Hi all. i am a real novice to this. i would like to compose missions and campaigns for DCS world. I have been doing a lot of flying and now i want to start composing missions and campaigns to distribute to those that likes an AI challange. i do have some questions though that is technical and hopefully there are some people that can assist.

my first obsticle is setting up an AI ground unit FAC that reports to my Huey the position of an enemy in order for the helo to track the enemy down and destroy it.

if someone can assist in this scenario please.

 

setup:

1 enemy ground unit - moving

1 friendly ground unit - tracking enemy unit

1 friendly help (Huey) - receiving info of enemy travel from friendly unit

I tried the sample mission after changing to player from client. no luck. tried all the radio settings and no joy. I read up a bit more. the setup of the FAC should be something like:

1- eprs (on) -a

2- set callsign

3- set frequency

4- assign group

 

something like that - you can enter as step 2 that the unit is invisible if you dont want it to be attacked and then all other steps add +1.

 

I have been playing around with the tasks etc with the FAC but havent hit the right combo of commands yet ;-(

so please feel free to assist.

someone commented on that maybe the Huey doesnt have the right equipment - in my opinion it has as all i need is a radio transmission.

 

looking forward to solving this puzzle.

i am sure the huey must be able to receive radio messeges from the FAC. i will play around again tonight with it. i will also messege some other non so novice people and see who can help. it would be a rel bummer if the huey cant interact or receive co-ords from FAC as i am trying to create missions and ultimately a campaign based around the Huey and MI 28. the scenarios is based around a border outpost and clashes between USA and Russia for dominance of the border outpost. the only USA helo there is is the Huey. putting that up against a KA-50 is just wrong so the MI 28 is the only other choice. in the missions you will be able to choose USA or Russia.

I did some testing tonight. Here is an updated sample mission with the JTAC working with the A-10C correctly.

 

Unfortunately I don't think JTAC is functional with the Huey. I checked the radio settings and pretty sure I got them correct.

 

You can try yourself to be sure.

shot sabre. yeah its pretty much the same type of setup as what i found searching the net. you dont have contacts with ED or people here that knows admin staff? i would really like jtac / fac to work for huey. i draughted such a nice mission but it will have to be canned if fac doesnt work.

 

i could try and change to colored smoke maybe......

let me see how that pans out

Unfortunately that appears to be the case. I found this thread that indicated it's not functional for the Huey yet.

 

There is a mod for the Ka-50 that someone was trying to make work but it appears they weren't successful.

 

The smoke on unit might work though.

Hi Toxocara,

I don't use the JTAC 9-line in my missions,,, I never really bothered with that feature.

 

Instead I will figure a way to put smoke or flares or an illumination bomb on a target and follow that up with a text message to let the pilot know.

 

You could use a moving zone that is attached to the friendly vehicle, and when the Huey gets into that zone then put smoke on the enemy unit and a post message to coalition that tells the Huey pilot to attack. The message could be formatted much like the 9-line.

interesting approach to the problem. i will try to get that to work untill fac is up and running. ultimately this is 2nd prize, i like 1st prizes :smartass:

first noob mission - honest opinions please

first mission. i did not spend much time on briefing or pics in briefing. just tried to get the feel of creating a simple mission. please give me all feed back. likes and dislikes. if the likes are good i will spend more time in making better missions. if it sux i will only fly....:pilotfly:

Don't say that. We need good mission developers! The more missions to play the better as every mission developer brings their own experience and personality into their missions.

sorry all

reloaded the mission. the spawn time was out for the player pilot.

sorry....just download again and she should be good......also added some sound to the first enemy spotted as well as some red smoke and shit.....:thumbup:

this is just a mess around bit of a mission...

testing transport, triggers, zones, sounds, written messeges, time delays and some other stuff rolled into a nice starter pack i think. this mission will take about 1.5 hrs to complete, or if you check triggers and objectives, 30 minutes as there is a hidden objective....

Your wav files need to be louder, I think.

 

That first event is 'On Destroy' -- make it 'No Event'. Just use No Event for all your events, it will save you time and troubleshooting later. Also, Condition = All Of Coalition In Zone is going to be hard to achieve with Players or Clients in the game -- think of another solution that doesn't need all of Blue in there. There are some great mist detection scripts to detect if certain groups or units are in a zone and these are fairly easy to use -- here are the ones I use the most.

 

Give your groups structure. Look at my flag and naming guide.

 

Your second event has another All Of Coalition In Zone. You may want to make it a Part Of Coalition or Group In Zone instead to be sure it triggers at some point.

 

 

Here is a mission that has structure and lots of events as examples.

 

 

Build in a revision numbering scheme to your mission names so you can keep track of the changes.

holy crap WC thats a mouth full.

now the short version....did you play the mission and did you find faults? :lol:

I will write a similar mission as I think I got the basics right. This mission might have been a bit complex and not very well organised with group names etc. But i will do a better job next time.

The flags and .lua scripting is like freaking greek to me. I have no idea how they work. As you said to me "use the ingame mission stuff and try to make sense of it". I am not a programmer....I am a gamer :joystick: and even then i cant always figure out how the hardware or software work :helpsmilie:

I will give it another bash. Please play the mission though and let me know what you think.

Well, those All Of Coalition In Zone events are going to be hard to realize -- the likelihood of them triggering is low. I'm more of a fan of Part Of Group In Zone type events.

 

Give all of your groups a leading "Red" and "Blu" in their names. It is really tough trying to track events when the groups are named like helicopter1, helicopter2 and they are mixed between the Blue and Insurgent (Red) forces. It will make your mission better and less trouble in the long run.

 

Add in a temporary Game Master during development that you can use to monitor your progress (you need Combined Arms); also, you can use the Game Master to force route your groups to test out your zone triggers. And use Cntrl-Z to speed up the action in SP mode so you can quickly go to the time in the mission that you are testing.

 

 

The Lua stuff was a lot harder for me to grasp, especially the complex scripting. But there are some basic Lua mist functions that are very good for detecting types and quantities of vehicles and a/c in zones -- and those are easy to implement -- I can help you with that.

 

Ya, I spent most all of the weekend working on my own new script, so I did not have all the time I would have liked to have to look at your mission. I'll have another go at it tonight or tomorrow -- if you make changes before I can look at it again please give the new link.

 

 

Also, use revision indicators for your mission work -- see my flag guide for a revision indication idea.

When I open your next mission, I would like to rename your groups as I'm suggesting -- if you won't mind. That way you can see what I'm talking about.

Here is the mission with the groups renamed, and a revision indicator on the file name.

 

Your first event 'All Of Coalition (Blue) in Zone' will never trigger because you have two Blue helicopters at Vaziani w/o a path to fly. So that is a show stopper.

 

FYI, you are using a lot of Static Objects (I gave them 'SO' in their names). SOs are fine for eye candy, but are not very useful beyond that because you can't detect their destruction with regular events. I haven't gotten that far yet to see if you are using them in your events. I don't recall if a Static Object in a zone would prevent a 'All Of Coalition Out Of Zone' from triggering -- easy enough to test though.

Your briefing needs to be clear as to who (Red vs Blue) should do what -- don't leave it as 'we', instead say Blue has to do this,,, and Red has to do that...

 

Let me suggest that you use one of your Blue Helicopter groups to penetrate the first event zone and get that to start things moving. For that use a Part Of Group In Zone -- that will get your Red forces started.

You need to test each stage of your mission when you use events. When I saw that your first event couldn't trigger then you had to know that.

 

You don't need events -- you can just let everything flow.

Figure out what you want to be detected in that first event and we can go from there.
