piXel496 Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Will Eagle Dynamics open doors for other mil. sim. airframe builders when DCS 2.0 sees the light? (More or less like FSX or Prepar3D) I think Milviz Flight Sims could be a nice candidate with there: T-38A Jet Trainer. Any other speculative suggestions? . old stuff I made

I am not sure I understand your question ... as there are already several 3rd party developers actively working on additional aircraft for DCS ...?
piXel496 Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 @Flagrum oh ok I mean DCS more evolving as a "world platform" and quality gate keeper for planes made by others then the current "several". There are some third parties that already have interesting airplanes in there portfolio that would fit the DCS shoe. old stuff I made

All kinds of aircrafts by all kinds of developers can be integrated. And ED is even performing - for my understanding - a certain quality control. Modules must adhere to certain (minmal?) technical standards to be compatible with the platform that we call DCS World. The thing is just, developing for DCS is challenging and time (=cost) intensive. This is due to the fidelity and quality expectations of the customer base. Nevertheless ED was, and I suppose will continue to do so, developing DCS:W to be more open for other developers. It is not too long ago since, for example, they introduced "CoreMods". Before that, to implement the AI versions of an aircraft, several lua files of the DCS:W core had to be extended and modified. Now all this is more modularized and more independend from other developments of other devs. Nevertheless, developing for DCS:W will probably always be more challenging than for i.e. FSX. Therefore it will not suffice to invite other 3rd party devs to just "port" their products to DCS:W - they must be committed to re-develop large parts of it. And that is probably the main reason why DCS:W is not flooded with 20 new aircraft of 3rd party devs every second month.

Its likely less "ED Opening Doors' and more "3rd Parties approaching ED and learning the Platform." cichlidfan Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 There are some third parties that already have interesting airplanes in there portfolio that would fit the DCS shoe. The problem is that those aircraft, made for another sim, already in a portfolio are nearly useless in DCS. Maybe the 3d model can be used but there is probably next to nothing else that is transferable. Then there is the learning curve/development time needed just to figure out how DCS works. It isn't a simple as you might think. NRG-Vampire Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) you know guys the most sad things are the old 3d models such as f-16, f-14, mig-23, buildings etc. come from 1999 (flanker 2.0) some aircraft (mig-29) and vehicle models got some small facelifts in 2003 (lomac) but those are exactly the same models what we see now in dcsw - and probably we will see it in dcsw 2.0 too  however the p3d/fsx/sfs/x-plane model makers would be able to bring theirs nice 3d models into dcsw in a moment (for ai and static objects) to raise the visual experience Edited October 23, 2014 by NRG-Vampire
Luzifer Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Also, wasn't Milviz already a third party that announced working on projects for DCS and then left again? Or am I remembering the wrong name?
