PiedDroit Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Hello everyone, I'm looking for some hints to fly the thing in an hostile environment, the problem lies in BVR, in the campaign. Even at the first mission in the campaign I got my butt kicked solid, as soon as I am in range the bogeys kill my S.A. by locking me all the time (preventing me to know where they are coming from). I tried going on the deck/turning around to get some time and space to turn toward the hot zone and get a radar/SPO picture, but most of the time I got locked quickly, and shot without knowing a missile was launched at me. I'm starting to think I should stay as far as possible and wait for the F-16s and F-4s to do the job :( So, my question, is there any kind soul out there willing to share some useful hints? Cheers, P
QuiGon Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Most important: Use the AWACS to help your S.A. and let you guide towards the bogeys! On a side note: How do you get killed in the first mission? Isn't the first mission the familiarization flight around Kutaisi without any combat actions? Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
kanami314 Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I think he is talking about the second mission, from what I remember, the second mission requires you to again, follow waypoints very accuratly, and if you get too far off corse, then they will shoot you down. try rereading the mission instructions and wrigting down the flight plane and major nav notes so that you can follow the flight plane to the t.
PiedDroit Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 Thanks for the replies, I have to pay more attention to the AWACS, but that still leaves the problem of entering the kill zone of the bogeys. Maybe I should wait until they get "cold" so I can close in? BTW, I was talking about the first mission involving CAP, I don't have any issues with navigation or even dogfight - but you're right, maybe I'm not supposed to drift too much outside the CAP zone on this mission.
Lordbaldur Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Roughly once you take off, go to these headings. 116 117 328 320 277 277 277 175 152 36 Runway. Turn to the next vector after each in-game comment is activated. My Channel

This is a bit off topic and looks like a cheat code to unlock a character in a Street Fighter game, thanks for the laugh :D Planning the route using ARC/RSBN is a lot more fun, as last resort you can use the kneeboard (RCtrl+up, change page with RCtrl+left/right mark position with RCtrl+down) if you're lost in any mission, as long as your ship did not drift away too much.

Sorry for the necro, but I didn't want to create another thread, especially since I just started one and you were all so nice! I'm having trouble wrapping my head around what I should be doing to get from waypoint to waypoint. I understand the RSBN, and I think I understand the ARC (in theory,) but I don't get how I follow the flight plan. Can someone explain it to me like I'm in second grade? Thanks so much.
panzerd18 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I don't think you can following the flight plan exactly like it is programmed into the Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft. You navigate visually from a map, and by the RSBN and ARC channels as support. I have flown the 2nd mission twice and on both occasions, myself and my wingman have been shot down. 1
