Xealot Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Hello everyone! I just spent some time in boredom making a little guide on the very basics of BVR engagements.. I would be quite happy to receive some feedback, it is originally inteded to be a sort of guideline for my new lomac playing friends though.. :) http://xealot.yaoi.se/~xealot/bvr/ 1 The community newbie http://winsbydefault.com/pics/dctf1ibxh7.gif Replace this image! Pilotasso Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Im finding it more and more that there is no defenitive BVR tactics. Specialy with LOMAC and specialy after every patch for about 2 months or so. Every time I seem to find a tactic wich apears to get me some success, my oponents come up with something else that trashes it. Im going through such a period right now and Im suffering alot online lately. This is also a good fun because it always gives me an objective to fight for. Right now it is to get me back to 5:1 Kill ratio or better. The best tactic is to learn at your cost to inovate and always be 1 step ahead of the game and keep forcing your oponents to adapt everytime. .
Prophet_169th Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 :) I am finding the best defensive tactic is to know when to extend, and get the hell outta dodge. Most the time when I die, its because I know I should bug out, but dont. Great write-up Xealot.
Kula66 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Most the time when I die, its because I know I should bug out, but dont. Agreed Prophet, I guess this is the biggest difference between a Sim and RL ... in real-life you die! In RL lob those AMRAAMs at max 20miles, turn an run ... they may be expensive, but Raytheon will build some more!
GGTharos Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Uh ... if you lob them at 20nm, turn and run they'll probably miss ... as a certain debacle experienced by the RAF would prove. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Pilotasso Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 One of the thing that bugs me is if the AMRAAM wasnt so blind I would have make 4 ship mig formations run like rabits. Instead it only makes me winchester faster and does little to force them to go defensive. TWS 4 ship targeting is useless right now. .
Kula66 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Uh ... if you lob them at 20nm, turn and run they'll probably miss ... as a certain debacle experienced by the RAF would prove. Yes, I know GGT, I was implying that it would be fire at long range and run shot, ie. not pressing on into the enemy target range ;) What got me about some RL engagements is the close proximity when the AMRAAMs finally hot ... I seem to remember 8miles being quoted.
Rastus Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Nice one Xealot. This must have been done with V1.02. In V1.12 the MFD does not show the same unless in TWS mode which is next to useless in todays online environment with so many people relying on their jammers. So to IFF in BVR mode, you now have to rely on the HUD infomation only, double bar is friendly & single bar is enemy. Also the Max / Min missile launch range has 3 markers, "Rmax" Max range for non maneuvering target, "Rtr" Max range for maneuvering target (no escape zone), and "Rmin" minimum range. It is always best to try to get as close to the "Rtr" as possible before launching for maximum effectivenes. Great guide & thanks for sharing it. Cheers.
Xealot Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 Hello all and thanks for your replies! Yes I do use v1.02 but i intend to buy FC sometime soon depending on when my wallet allows it ;) I'll probably rewrite the thing for FC once i got my hands on it so i can see for my self  The community newbie http://winsbydefault.com/pics/dctf1ibxh7.gif Replace this image!
