Hoggorm Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Hi, Now that FC3 is available at Steam I'd like to change form regular DCS World to Steam DCS World. How can I make sure all my settings are transferred? I'm especially interested in transferring the keyboards settings where I've done the most changes. Also - If a friend of mine uses the regular DCS, I will still be able to fly with him from Steam? Thank you
NeilWillis Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 The licenses you have for all the modules are not transferable, so you'd need to spend more money I suspect. But yes, you can fly with regular DCS users with a steam installation. If you save the necessary files you should be able to overwrite the ones set up in steam, and that will transfer your settings across. The biggest obstacle is that licenses purchased through ED will not be transferable to steam. It is possible to transfer steam licenses to the standard DCS world however. Are there actually any advantages to steam? They get new releases later, and I expect steam uses some system resources too?
Hoggorm Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Thank you for the very quick reply! The licenses you have for all the modules are not transferable, so you'd need to spend more money I suspect. I only own the A-10C, CA and FC3, and they all appear as in Library in Steam. But yes, you can fly with regular DCS users with a steam installation. If you save the necessary files you should be able to overwrite the ones set up in steam, and that will transfer your settings across. Do you know where I can find the key binding settings files (G for Gear up for example)? I tried to press save profile in the settings, but nothing happens... Are there actually any advantages to steam? They get new releases later, and I expect steam uses some system resources too? Good question. I use Steam a lot, and have no problems with it. I just find it practical to have everything at one place.
falcon_120 Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 All the keyboards settings are in C:/user/Savedgames/DCS
NeilWillis Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Yep, I suggest you just back up your entire saved games folder, and then re-install that when you have moved across to steam. I am not sure of the exact file structure that steam uses, but you'll find the saved games aspect should stay where it is? Just keep both the old and new "saved games" file structures when you swap them back, and see if it all runs as expected before you bin the back ups. If you use mods, I'd freshly re-install them after the move using JSGME. It should all be pretty painless.

cichlidfan Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 You have to install DCS World on Steam and then activate your modules using Steam. There is no 'simply move' capability, though the Steam install will use your existing Saved Games folder. Somehow activating my steam version into the simple DCS world UI from ED This is how it is done: Yes, you will simply need to retrieve your serial key which can be found within your steam library and right-clicking on DCS World -> "View CD Key" then use this serial key to authenticate your module on DCS World. Another way to view your cd-key is by simply by clicking the "CD-Key" link on the right side menu displayed after clicking DCS World within your library as SkateZilla mentioned 1 Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled
