Guys, really....this is far to be a DB605 sound. Please do somenthing here because a Messerschmitt with the sound of DCS K4 is not a Messerschmitt, not at all, a Tucano may be but not a Messerschmitt.

The immersion and the feeling to fly a K4 is totally missed without the Daimler Benz music. A stunning model and cockpit are not enough for a Bf-109.

Consider that sound is different, from pilot point of view. Also the pilot is wearing a helmet.

Beside from your link on 1:22 what do you hear?

Unfotunately i must agree with OP.

Sounds needs to remake in my opinion, current sounds could be ok for some other plane but problem is they doesen't really remind real DB 605 sounds at all. Like op said, current sounds ruins the immersion, it's kinda like flying replica of 109: it looks and flies pretty much like original but sounds like it had some modern engine under the hood. I just can't feel the power of the engine now.

And please, with all respect stop posting comments about helmet and headset, or how recordings sounds different than real life. Yes, helmet will act as muffler, different mics etc. may change sound a bit but they won't change the whole engine sounds to another.

DCS 109 looks awesome, cockpit is best 109 in any sim so far, FM feels fantastic (well theres some bugs but like we all know, beta), it really deserves equally great sounds too. With pretty please :)

Unfortunately i don't own any high quality recordings of DB 605 so these youtube links must do it for now.

For interior sounds:

Exterior:

Of course there is lot's of more in youtube, it's just hard to find good quality ones.

I have to disagree with you here. For example all the samples you give are not professional recordings, the intent was not for a pure recording of engine sound, no length is gone into protecting the mic so that its not distorted or polluted from other elements.

The helmet and such IS an important comment because sound will be muffled, if these guys had to endure the full volume of the engine every flight they would have gone mad or at the very least gone deaf, in which case you could just turn the sound off to simulate this.

I will take some time this weekend to list to all samples provided here, but understand that ED has a pretty decent sound engineer working on these things, and his understand of how sounds work should be pretty good. But if I see anything you guys provide that makes me think something could be tweaked or adjust, I will report it. Right now, the most I have heard is that some of the vids provide more bass, but I will be honest, I havent really sat down and gave them a good listen yet.

Yes, i know it is important to know they will muffle etc, etc but like i wrote earlier, i know all this but my point was, that no helmet or headset will change the whole engine sound itself to sounding like another engine, i.e it won't change V-12 sounds to boxer 6 sounds.

I have sit many hours IRL prop planes, some quite powerful ones too. With and without headset :)

We are hearing it differently then, I am listening through a set of fairly decent speakers, and it sounds pretty good to me, yes muffled as I would expect it would be more a pilot, but I dont get the sense that it is anything less than a V-12.

Based on your vast experience of sitting in the cockpit of a BF 109K-4? Sure... I am open to discussion, but dont be rude or disrespectful....

The video you posted originally is a terrible example, recorded with probably a cheap video camera, polluted with many other sounds... not a very good source I am afraid.

Well it was just example, i did not meant DCS DB sounds like boxer-6 would, but it just doesen't sound like DB 605 for me.

I understand, but sound is like colour in my opinion, it can be heard differently by 2 different people as colours can be seen differently be 2 different people... the posture I am taking right now is that we have to show definitive proof that a professional sound engineer got it wrong. So the stance right now is ED sound is the DB 605 until proven otherwise. Its like any other bug with the FM or anything like that, its on us to show good evidence otherwise, as I said, when I have time later I will do a comparison of your vids and any others you can supply. I hope Erich will have some seat time as well, he will be able to tell us all what the sounds are like, he flew 109s :)

You are try to say that DCS K4 DB605 sound is fine?

Np, but if you think that people will be happy with this Daimler sound, good for you.

I can't say more, not a good beginning for DCS WW2. This K4 is simple stunning, but with this sound......

I am saying I will trust a professional sound engineer as I have no experience in the cockpit of a real 109. ED also has a real 109 pilot from the war, as well as the vast experience of TFC, so what I am saying is its on you, or me or whomever to provide compelling evidence it is wrong... your vid in your OP is not it.

I would love if they could do some further work on the sounds. Definitely a bit weak,(ok more than a bit weak) and I think adding a transitional sound file to follow the engine start up sound would help too. A cold engine RPM just does not stabilized that quickly, as it is in game. If they could revisit the sounds, that would be great!!

regarding the attached videos

guys you really think that our ears are so poor as the camera microphones? if you really want to add example of the sound pls use some professional recording equipment, record the sound on the airport and then try to post it in some format with little compression. Videos (especially YT) does not always depicts what we really see and hear.

PS: "There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear...."

Quality is not very good, but good enough i think to understand that it sounds different, at least in the dive sound. The "whistling compressor" is totally missed in DCS, and this feature is typical of Daimler Benz. A Messerschmitt without the whistling sound is not a Messerschmitt, and it doesn't matter how good is the 3D model and cockpit. This is the problem; Messerschmitt is first of all the Daimler Benz, and Daimler Benz is first of all the whistling sound of its compressor.

I don't have any kind of experience in a real WWII plane, and i even tested yet the Bf-109 because it's not available yet in steam, but basing on videos from other people the sound doesn't seems very close to the video i post in this comment. I know it's not the same engine exactly, but in my opinion, from all the bugs already posted, i think the sound engine must be tweaked or re-done to have a little more immersion of how it should be flying a Bf-109 K4 in real life.

Limitations of ED's current sound engine or the audio "specialist" hasn't simply focused enough with the sound..

Hope the sound gets little better over time

Basically every ww2 prop plane sound in DCS world at the moment lack that "something".

Nope, its not a good source, we have no idea where they got their sounds from, real sources need to be obtained.

The videos posted by DB 605 gives kind of accurate sound if not the best atleast 85% what you could hear IRL. Everyone can agree that the current engine sound ia wayy off.

Even a Cessna 172 sounds more powerfull :music_whistling:

I'm no professional sound engineer or something, but I think there is no question that there is something missing atm. In every video you can hear it sounds totally different. Maybe sound quality is not the best etc. but you hear the difference. I'm not complaining. I would be ok with current sounds because I know there are modders out there who will provide new sounds one day.

You posted 3 interior sounds and 2 exteriors. Don't you hear that the first one of interior has almost no common with the second? Regarding the quality I'd say that the first one seems more close to professional recording the second and the third looks like video-camera fixed on the airframe and getting all its vibration, heavily compressed, etc.

The exteriors are both different having different sound coloration - what is the right pattern, can you say? And both of them suffer from lack of low frequencies. By the way, none from this pair has bright "whistle" - just the wingless and cowlless 109 has it. Uncowled.... possibly it is the answer?
