Saphire HD7970 & EK Water cooling block

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi all,

I recently bought a GTX980 so my HD7970 which I used for about 2 years is now spare and just laying around and was wondering if anyone would like to buy it off me?

I am located in Sydney and would preffer to sell to someone local but if need me I will ship nationally and internationally (but buyer pays the shipping)

I have all the original packaging

I am not asking for much I think, AUD$150 would do. If you have water cooling you can have the full cover EK Nickel WC Block & backplate that I was using also for no extra cost (currently the block is still attached, if you don't want the water cooling I can take it off, clean the chip, apply new arctic silver thermal paste and attach the original cooling - which I never used as this video card was water cooled from the 1st day of use... and temperatures were just awesome)

so send me a PM if you are interested

Mine NEVER go lower than 40 with all the bells and whistles turned on! But again mine has 6gb of vram. Don't know if that has anything to say? But it is a beast of a card and very good value for the money

I can't say how well it will run DCS World 2.0 as its integration is still WIP

What I can tell you is that after installing GTX980, it is not that much faster card for DCS... I get maybe 10-20% better fps... and honestly money wise, I think it was not worth while to buy the GTX980 to replace the HD7970 but since I've done it might as well stick to it now.

HD7970 has 3GB of vRAM, GTX980 has 4GB (game still doesn't use 3GB even on 4K 58" TV)

I never used that card for single standard HD monitor anyway (I was running 3x 27" before I switched to 4K 58" TV). I am pretty sure this card can run standard single HD monitor with DCS at 30fps but let me not be the judge of that, wait for someone else with same card and single monitor tell you that.

EDIT: sorry, I think I was wrong about 10-20% increase... I turned off Ambient Occlusion in options and the fps is better and smoother... I was flying in 2.0 (testers build) and my fps was in 40-50's with high settings with which I was gettings 30-35fps before with HD7970

That sounds more like it. A 290 is about 30% faster than the 7970 (my card). A 290 is about equivalent to a 970 so a 980 should be even faster. To be honest i'm surprised you didn't instead go for a 2nd hand 7970 to crossfire.

The Waterblock alone is worth more than that...

Then again, I still have a EK 7970 Lightning Waterblock in a box because it wont sell, lol.

yeah, the water block & backplate was around AUD$180... but really awesome to cool with water.

The GTX980 I bought I am water cooling also, the card is under 30°C idle, and never saw it go over 45°C in game :) (I was using GPU-Z to check temperatures)
