Honest989 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Ok, I feel like an old man. I've made about 6-7 posts here about this game, most to do with what this game is like... time to get my feet wet. My original plan was to get the gold edition in the UK when it comes out at the end of the month. However, after telling my brother who's basically 29 and an avid ms flight sim enthusiast (he wanted to be a pilot but failed the medical) he went out to morrisons and bought it for 5 pounds. (that's a good deal I'd love to buy it at that price... one problem though.. my particular branch of morrisons here in Aberdeen seems to prefer selling 'My little pony party'. It looks like I'll have to pay ten pounds at game) He then told me it was cool, so i'm figuring the 28th of this month is a long way off when I can have this game now, and download the addons from lockon.ru tonight. But there's one thing that's stopping me buying - all that gubbins over the activation etc... Now, this isn't an issue because of some dark side of me saying i don't want spyware or whatever... It's down to a couple of questions really. Will I be downloading an .exe installer for Flaming Cliffs. I.e, one i can back up on a CD? If so how big is it? The description for buying it online says 'it's protected by starforce' what does that mean exactly? That when I install it, a code is generated that i must register to play it? Following on from the last question: Does that mean that should I find myself in the position of having to reinstall my pc completely, there's a limited number of times that I can install my web copy of flaming cliffs before I have to buy a new one? (That question might sound dumb but Apple and Ipod/Itunes have a lovely system in place that give you a limited number of activation uses, even after a reinstall of the PC)
ED Team Groove Posted April 6, 2006 ED Team Posted April 6, 2006 Will I be downloading an .exe installer for Flaming Cliffs. I.e, one i can back up on a CD? You will download a setup file which you can burn on cd as often as you want. If so how big is it? Afaik around 270 MB The description for buying it online says 'it's protected by starforce' what does that mean exactly? That when I install it, a code is generated that i must register to play it? After starting it up first time you have to input the key you get on the page after you purchased the game online and Starforce will activate it online. Your key is always visible to you when you log in on the lockon.ru homepage so no panic to lose it ! Following on from the last question: Does that mean that should I find myself in the position of having to reinstall my pc completely, there's a limited number of times that I can install my web copy of flaming cliffs before I have to buy a new one? (That question might sound dumb but Apple and Ipod/Itunes have a lovely system in place that give you a limited number of activation uses, even after a reinstall of the PC) Reinstalling is no problem afaik. Just when you change some hardware ( CPU for example ) you will have to register again. There are 5 registrations free afaik. But ED put a tool on their homepage which extracts your SF key and you can use it again even more than 5 times you put new hardware in ( as far i remember on this one) Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
enigma6584 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Welcome and see you around. You are going to enjoy this sim.
Snake_Eyes Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Welcome Honest Hi Honest, I purchased Lock On when it first came out, a few years ago. Over the past few days, I have got back in the saddle. I purchased the Flaming Cliffs add-on (CD version) from Europe (a lot cheaper than what rcsimulations sell it for thats for sure). Ordered it Monday, it arrived Tuesday (from Belgium). I installed it yesterday (you could see Star Force doing its bit). And although its early days - everything is fine. In fact, I can run Lock On without the FC CD in the drive. Buy it the noo. Jings, ye will not be disappointed. All the best.

Honest989 Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 I'm going to bed soon but all I can say is... fantastic game. I'm not going to venture online for a while yet as I haven't mastered that much, and i'm still prone to getting shot down a lot.. eventually I'll crack it :) How do you switch targets though? The little diamond indicating your current target (not with weapon lock i mean) is always over what I don't want it to be... can someone help? err.. and one last thing.. I know skins are considered 'cheats' online but how do you put them in game. I found a particularly nice 'hog' skin.
S77th-konkussion Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Skins are not likely to be considered a cheat- using weapons that don't belong on the plane are. Or- do you mean changing the entire plane, like an FA18 skin going over an SU33 cockpit? [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]

Honest989 Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 i mean just changing skins. I I found a skin on the lock on skins site for the warthog.. it's just more detailed than the current one but i can' figure out how to put it in game
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 w00t, someone else from aberdeen :) welcome
Snake_Eyes Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Morning .... Honest, to manage your downloads, skins and whatnot. Use ModMan, currently at version 5. It was formerly known as LoMan (just in case you hear that name bounded about). Available here (along with loads of other goodies): (About a third of the way down the page): http://www.lockonskins.co.uk/index.php?page=downloads&cat=45

Im English... *hissss hisssss* :icon_jook Thankyou everyone for your help here. I think I'll probably end up printing the manual because it's too long to remember when you're first learning but you've all been fantastic.
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 English Bas****, joke ;) so you likeing our universitie/s I presume that you are at the old aberdeen university instead of the R.G.I.T one ? Anyway, its cool to have someone else from this area join, even if you are english. cheers dude...
Honest989 Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 yup. University of Aberdeen.. good place. My brother's up at Robert Gordon, but what do you mean by R.G.I.T? is that another acronym for the place?
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 RGIT = robert gordons institute of technology. I studied where you did, as RGIT got no history behind it, unlike the hundreds n hundreds of years our one has :)
