kolga Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Hi, i know its sort of been asked before but, how accurate is the dcs a10 in terms of how much did they change in the public version? (Any A-10 pilots out there?) Thanks! "Long life It is a waste not to notice that it is not noticed that it is milk in the title." Flagrum Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 The forum search function gave no results on that topic? ;o)
kolga Posted December 12, 2014 Author Posted December 12, 2014 Sort of, but i know about the FM and stuff i'm just wondering difference between this and on a real a10 (startup, navigation, even weapons) Thanks! WildBillKelsoe Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 "Realsim".. But it is the real deal... 95% authentic IIRC. Keep in mind that most literature focuses on the A version (flaming cliffs 3).. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
StrongHarm Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Light on the secret sauce.. ED won't answer a lot of questions about what subsystems are missing from the public version. They often delete threads that go too deeply into the subject, probably due to DOD agreements. My personal opinion is that they must have stretched the NDA as far as it would go to retain as many subsystems as they did. Matt Wagner used to be an analyst for the CIA, so you can be sure he went by the book.. creatively.. In the hundreds of times I've flown this sim, I don't think there's been one instance where I haven't briefly considered how lucky I am to be flying it. It's pretty damned good. Here's a quote from a previous post by Wags on subsystems: While we do not expect the F-35 systems to be 100% accurate, we don't expect them to be. I'm sorry to break the news, but several of the A-10C systems are missing and a few more I had to redesign due to sensitivity issues. Bottom line is that although the media tries to portray the U.S. military as substandard, there's a lot we don't know about that makes it amazingly effective. I saw stuff in 1990 when I was in the military that would surprise you today. Of course there are subsystems missing from the sim.. but that's probably a healthy thing. I'd guess A-10C is about 90% accurate, but of course, that's just speculation. This estimate excludes ordinance lethality, which is an entirely different subject of discussion that would lengthen an already lengthy post. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
Snoopy Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Compared to the current A-10C it's very outdate, we're starting to update to suite 8. Based on the suite (3 ish) they simulated I'd go with 70 to 80% authentic. Some systems are restricted or bot fully modeled because of the USAF restrictions IIRC (RWR, TAD symbology, laser guided Mav, and a few others) v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
DaveRindner Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Flight model appears very realistic. But wind and weather are not. In real world pilot has more interactivity of control of aircraft as it interacts with turbulent air, at varying altitude. Still its pretty close. Some systems are still classified or are NF black boxes. Secure ARC VHF radios, and IFF equipment. JDAMS (GBU-31,38) are under modeled. Especially in their flight and release profiles. I suspect, in real world, release conditions are greater, then in this sim. Once a grid point is entered into delivery system, of JDAM. The release should be allowed when aircraft is not facing the tgt. At 15K feet AGL JDAM should be able to hit the target even if the target is behind or to the side the aircraft. Today GBU-38 JDAM is primary close support ordinance from fixed wing.
Harzach Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Close enough... Matt Wagner: After working on the software A-10C for a couple of years I had the opportunity to sit in the USAF full dome A-10C cockpit simulator. Based on our software, I was able to start up the aircraft, taxi, take off, navigate, kill the target, and land without a problem. I see no reason why one of our DCS: A-10C Warthog customers could not do the same.
rajdary Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Another question could be, Is it easier or more difficult? Meaning that if some systems, ordinance lethality, ordinance accuracy and others have been toned to be less effective or simply there are some systems that are missing (which probably make things easier for the pilot) then this : Matt Wagner: After working on the software A-10C for a couple of years I had the opportunity to sit in the USAF full dome A-10C cockpit simulator. Based on our software, I was able to start up the aircraft, taxi, take off, navigate, kill the target, and land without a problem. I see no reason why one of our DCS: A-10C Warthog customers could not do the same. Not only is probably very true but maybe also some situatuions are also easier to handle for a RL A10C pilot. Off course we have to keep in account that DCS world Manpads, Infantry etc.. dont move, run away or hide, apparty from weather, winds etc.. etc.. StrongHarm Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Awesome quote! They should put that on the box! kolga Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 Thank you everybody! looks like ED is pretty tight about whats classified and whats not. Thanks again!
