Khamul
Hi all, I'm facing deeply with some Hog tactics and I've some questions for you, expert people: 1. Why hogs should stay in a close formation, like aerobatics patrol (few feets distance between)? Is it realistic? If yes, when it is worth? I guess a 4000' separation is something working for CAS, right? 2. I did not found anything specific about tactics figures. I mean, I've found some of Falcon's but very few related to the hog, any tips? Some good docs are RAF Bentwater and A-10 in Kosovo but nothing related specific figure. Thanks for your time in advance. Edited December 28, 2014 by Khamul TU NE CEDE MALIS SED CONTRA AUDENTIOR ITO _________________________________________ Asrock Fatal1ty Gaming K6+, i5-6600K, 32 GB DDR4, Asus GTX 1070 Strix, SSD 500GB, HDD 1TB, Win 10 x64, Monitor LG Ultrawide 29UM67, Soundblaster Z+Sennheiser Game One, HOTAS Warthog, TFRP Thrustmaster, TrackIr

Khamul
Thanks! That is what I was looking for. Do you have any explanation of close formation question? Do you use close formation in your squad? Steel Jaw
Close formation in any combat jet is not useful nor advisable in a tactical environment. Not flexible enough for maneuvering nor weaponeering, and too labor intensive for the flight, who need to focus on checking six and operating their jets effectively. The only time we fly close formation online, be it in the dcs hawg , or the bms viper, is right after takeoff and on landing. Snoopy
Close formation is primarily used for weather penetration and during an overhead break. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website | v303rd Fighter Group Twitter
GGTharos
Yes it is (or more appropriately, can be), some of the most conspicuous reasons for it are just not simulated in-game - some others are (covering an AC with another ACs counter-measures). Distance to the other aircraft depends on what you are trying to achieve with the formation. Also, 'close' is a meaningless term. What's 'close?' 5'? 500'? There are formations that have their outer bound at 500', and there are tactical formations whose inner bound is 500'. But that distance can change from aircraft to aircraft, too. Close formation in any combat jet is not useful nor advisable in a tactical environment.
