February 16th 2015 marks our second anniversary since launching the Virtual Aerobatics Server. Last year, to mark the anniversary, we decided to host an airshow featuring many of the teams that supported the server from our humble beginnings. In what we hope will become an annual event, we decided to host another show this year. Over the last 12 months, virtual aerobatics has continued to grow, the server is increasing in popularity, the website is being viewed more frequently and our community is always welcoming new members who share our passion for aviation. This years show, hosted on February 15th 2015 features a total of 17 acts flown by your old virtual air show favourites (perhaps with a twist) and a few new teams making their debuts! Part of Virtual-Aerobatics’ mission is to help and support new teams get started in formation aerobatics and, of course, we’re very excited to have them participate at our show after all the hard work they have put in over the last few months.

The show will kick off at 14:00 GMT with the VAT ‘Berkuts’ Mig-29 UB solo, flown by Sawamura. This is sure to be a high impact, energetic solo to set the pace for an exciting afternoon of flying. 2015 also marks Sawamura’s 10th virtual air show season, a fantastic achievement for any pilot. Following Sawamura, the VAT ‘King Cobras’ will take to the sky with an electrifying duo performance – a slice of which can be seen below:

The Great War Birds Historic Flight, flown by Virtual-Aerobatics founders Pman & Rock, will follow the King Cobras in a pair a classic WWII Naval Fighters (The F6F Hellcat & F4U Corsair), aiming to show the more graceful side of formation aerobatics. Next up, is Wine with the “VAG – Flanker B Demo” – Judging from the amount of training flights Wine has been conducting and the excellent screenshots we’ve been show so far, this is certain to be a demo that you wont want to miss! Wine became the first pilot to demonstrate the Su-27 on the new AFM, just a few days after it was released, at VFAT in November!

Supporters of the server from the very first weekend, our first large display team of the day is the VAT ‘Angels & Demons’. Flying one of the most anticipated displays of the day, A&D will demonstrate large scale formation flying at it’s finest. One of the standout performances of VFAT 2014 was the Virtual PC-7 team and we’re delighted to have them participate at our 2015 show! The PC-7 Team fly 9 aircraft in a tight formation display in a demonstration which is certain to be one of the most difficult of the day!

What follows, is certain to be one of our star attractions of the air show. ‘Shahdoh’s 2015 Mustang Racing Series’ kicks off in style with a 45 minute slot at 17:15 GMT. The Mustang racing series, to be hosted over the next 6 months, features both Red Bull style racing courses and mass start races, similar to the Reno Air Races in Nevada. The first race of the series will take place at the The Gudauta Boomerang, a 14 mile long track with 5 1/4 laps. This race will feature up to 22 pilots in 3 heats. For more information, visit our air racing section of our website.

The show will resume after a short break with the VEAO Simulations Showcase. With the number and type of aircraft yet to be confirmed, there is sure to a surprise from the guys at VEAO. The Baltic Bees will follow, with a high impact formation aerobatics display flying the L-39 Albatross. Following their debut at the Virtual Festival of Aerobatic Teams 2014, we’re extremely happy to have a new team participate in our show. Slowing the pace down once again, the Virtual Horsemen will take to the skies in 3 Supermarine Spitfires, replicating the demo flown at Flying Legends 2013. The team are certainly looking forward to flying a new demonstration with a combination of aircraft never seen before in DCS.

Next up is one of our more unusual demos, the ‘VAG – Apache & F16 Combi Demo’. Our only Helicopter demonstration of the show demonstrates the capabilities of the Ah-64 Apache, but also features some slow speed formation with the dutch F-16, before we see what the F-16 can really do!

Without doubt, one of the demos we’re most looking forward to is that of the Virtual Patrouille Suisse, who have (by the looks of things) been training in the mountains. One of the star attractions of VFAT 2014 with a perfectly timed demonstration of formation flying excellence, we can’t wait to see what these guys have planned for us! These guys have to be one of the best teams currently flying DCS.

At 21:35, we have a new team making their VA Debut – Golden Vengence. Flying 4 F-86 Sabres, these guys have trained extremely hard over the last few months with an aircraft that is notoriously difficult to handle in formation. As ever, we’re always happy to support new teams and we’re all looking forward to seeing what these guys can really do!

Our only Il-2 team of the day, the Frecce Tricolori Virtuali follow GV at 22:10 GMT, flying 10 Mb-339s in one of the most interesting real world formation demos out there! We’re very pleased that FTV agreed to participate in our show and hope to see them at other shows throughout the season. Next up is another new demo, but with a very familiar pilot: Rhino, of the Virtual Blue Angels takes to the skies in his F-86 Sabre for a fast paced, high impact solo, never before seen at a virtual air show. From one North American aircraft to another, Austin takes to takes off with his representation of P-51D Mustang ‘Quick Silver’s’ solo demonstration – with connections to the real demo, this is sure to be a fantastic show.

Closing proceedings is perhaps one of the most popular virtual aerobatics teams out there, the Virtual Patriots Jet Team. We’re delighted that these guys are participating in our show with what is always one of the best demos of the day.
