bleep323 Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Hi guys, I'm not actually playing DCS yet but have been looking through the vids on youtube and forums here and would really like to be a part of this game. However due to real life commitments I don't have a huge wodge of cash to spend on a set up. I have however seen a set up I can afford that is above the suggested requirements on the DCS page. Looking through the forums though and seeing people using water cooling systems and other high end tech is making me wonder how good my game play will be with the spec I can afford, your thoughts would be much appreciated. Cali Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Not sure about the CPU, but everything else there seems fine. Look at my sig, that's my current computer and it runs DCS just fine with a good amount of settings on high. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
bleep323 Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 Thanks Cali for the reply, in my haste to put up my post I missed out the processor which is a Intel Core i5-4460 3.2ghz Haswell CPUMax Turbo Frequency: 3.4Ghz Cache: 6MB
Pepec9124 Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I recommend adding SSD in future upgrade. Helps with TGP and stuff.
Exorcet Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I'm currently running on a G75 laptop from a couple years ago. i7 3.2 Ghz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GTX660M 2GB. It handles most things well on highish graphics settings, but it can't really multitask while running DCS mainly because of RAM. Awaiting: DCS F-15C Win 10 i5-9600KF 4.6 GHz 64 GB RAM RTX2080Ti 11GB -- Win 7 64 i5-6600K 3.6 GHz 32 GB RAM GTX970 4GB -- A-10C, F-5E, Su-27, F-15C, F-14B, F-16C missions in User Files
bleep323 Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 I don't believe I would have a problem with multitasking as this pc would be dedicated for DCS, I was just concerned that given other peoples set ups it would struggle to keep up with the game.
Cali Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 You should be good, I built my computer in June 2012 and it still runs games like DCS, BMS and Arma just fine. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
KLR Rico Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I'd say DCS would be totally playable with those specs, probably in the +40fps range with mid/high settings. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
Cali Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 what's the CPU? He posted this in post #3 Thanks Cali for the reply, in my haste to put up my post I missed out the processor which is a Intel Core i5-4460 3.2ghz Haswell CPUMax Turbo Frequency: 3.4Ghz Cache: 6MB i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
WinterH Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 That system would be quite fine for DCS. I am flying on my laptop with i7 @2.40 ghz, 8gb ram, 7670M graphich and a non ssd disk quite fine, even with somewhat highish settings. Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
OnlyforDCS Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 You should be good to go. Im running a very similar system to yours and DCS works with no problems at 1080p with everything set to high. I have to mention that I do have an SSD as well as 16GB of RAM. You will want to overclock that i5 to at least 4 Ghz if its a K model. (Many will go higher with a better cooling solution) Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
bleep323 Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Thanks everyone I'll order it tomorrow and hopefully see you in the skies someday.
