Ok, I just recently started messing around with the A10A, Ive had the C model since beta, but Ive never really progressed far with it, beyond flight basic, and navigation. Weapons employment was never my forte.

Anyway, wanted to give the A a try as the mavericks are modeled simply, and are a breeze to use but I can't seem to get past the first mission.

How are you taking on these three MBT's and which three should I destroy? Apparently the mission wants me to take out the three tanks just accross the river and they are rather well masked by buildings and terrain. THere are two more grupations of three T-72s, these other ones are further out from the town and are more or less in open terrain. Do I go after those?

I usually end up frustrated after expending all my weapons and return to base, or get shot up by the AA guns hidden in the town.

Help please?

I struggled a bit as well because I'm used to the TGP in A-10C. Some of the tanks aren't hard to find, you just need to slew the MAV seeker into the area then see if you can slew it up on one of the tanks. It wants to lock onto the buildings and trees and things so it may take a few passes. The real trick is that one of those little buggers is up under a tree near the edge of one of the buildings. I don't recall how many passes I had to make before I could get him locked up, but it is doable. I think you're probably close to the breakthrough if you know where the tanks are and how to get your missiles close. Just play with slewing them around, and don't be afraid to use your map if you have to. It can help you get oriented. You can also use your HUD to slew the MAV for "coarse" adjustment then put your face in the MFCD to do the "fine" adjustments. Good luck.

Trouble locking up Mavericks

I modified the weapons loadout to 6 AGMs and 5 CBU-97s. I too could not get a decent lock (tried both D and H models) on any of the 3 target MBTs in mission 1 of the campaign. I gave up and used a couple of CBU-97s in CCRP mode to do the trick. This gave me the "mission success" response after which I continued in the target area for more tank plinking with my six mavericks.

Agree with JAS500 on #3. Tanks in woods and towns are hard to lock with AGM-65. In this case or a similar mission, kill as many targets as you can with missiles first, and fly high enough to avoid AAA, then cover the area with CBU-97 in CCRP, which will automatically find and kill targets. Use flares to avoid IR SAM and break away immediately after bombs are dropped. If air defense has been destroyed, you can also try you cannon.
