No idea if this is the proper place to request a skin, but I'm reading about MiG-21 use during Soviet-Afghan war and will like to fly one of this cammoed Fishbeds used during operations in Afghanistan.

Thanks!

I would like to know much more about MiG-21s in Afghanistan. I thought by then they were pretty keen on the MiG-23 for the strike fighter role and the afghans didn't have very many aircraft to intercept.

Fishbed were used in the first stages as strike aircraft both by Soviet AF and Afghan AF (those Afghan ones escorted by soviet airpanes to prevento defections).

"The Afghans" that you mean didn't have any Aircraft at all. The Afghan (soviet) government had a few Mig-21 and other aircraft, but they sided with the Soviets.

The Mujahedeen were guerilla fighters who obviously did not have any airplanes.

Yes I know that. I'm interested in the employment of MiG-21 in the strike role by Soviet forces.

Interesting. Are there any specific named battles or sorties that you can think of that I might research where Soviet (or Afghan) MiG-21s played a significant role?

The upshot of this is that I'd like to research things like typical armament/ doctrine and the kind of ground forces that they would be employed against.

I'm guessing you'd send fast strike aircraft against targets that are expected to be too hard for the helicopter forces to deal with, high concentrations of MANPADS and the like.

This is part of a fantastic book on the subject.

Will love to have both Soviet and Afghan skins, but will be happy with the soviet one.

Stratos, those would be pretty sweet patterns.

Do you have the top and starboard side profile views as well to get the pattern correct?

Unfortunately not for the soviet birds, will keep searching. For the Afghan ones this model is pretty acurate.

We are all eagerly awaiting the layered template. Leatherneck has it and they stated several times that they will release it when EDGE comes out. After that... Whuuhuuu!!! :cheer3nc::punk:

Waiting waiting...:pilotfly:

Happy Flying! :pilotfly:

I know this thread might be a bit old now, but I am still looking exactly for those skins (Soviet ones from the first post). Has anyone made one in the meanwhile?
