Well, you should know that size matters not :D and I have no problems with it. I wondered why debate the meteors size, I was in inpressions someone was trying to prove a point wich again escaped my grasp. :)

My di.. uhm missile is bigger then yours :smilewink:

I wondered why debate the meteors size

I think we are just pondering if Meteors could be fitted into F-22 payload doors or not.

I think not, and thats because of the missiles intakes and fins. Thats why the AMRAAM has croped fins (and for comonality of parts). If the Meteor by any chance gets to be used on the Raptor it will be externaly. I dont think any other oposing aircraft will gain much because of the increased RCS since then the Raptor will have also twice the weapon range anyway.

You know from looking at that F-22 photo on 1st page I was thinking that if the inside of the payload (racks?) bay could be just a bit redesigned, only two Meteor missiles could probably fit in. It's hard to tell for me if the payload doors would close then completely.

The Meteor will fit in the weapons bay of the F-35B which can only hold 1,000lb bombs where as the F-35A/C can hold 2,000lb bombs. I think it will fit in the F-22s bay as it can also take a 1,000lb bomb.

If it fits then they have to reduce drasticaly the numbers of missiles carried wich will decrease the F-22's combat persistence considerably. I would rather as a pilot preffer to carry the standard AMRAAM load.

Well, it can still be loaded into the F-22 but externaly, or any other wepon meawhile developed in the same class. But then only if someone else devises a design capable countering stealth to a degree for getting a shot off against the raptor, but thats yet in the future and we still have to see what comes up with Russia's 4rth gen fighter.

This is not like plug-and-play. I am still not confirmed that this thing will fit in any kind of bay.

Lets take a closer look:

Yeah its BIG. Either it doesnt fit at all or it would waste so much space that it couldnt carry as many as needed for combat.

Í guess it could be modifyed and integrated into tother aircraft because its relatively fast to do so, but then no 1 has shown such intentions on any american fighter.

MDBA has said it will or has redesigned the Meteor to fit inside the F-35B weapons bay. That is 100% confirmed.

In my opinion, MBDA is doing well with missile development. Asraam can certainly keep up with the competition and Brimstone is on its way.

For the moment, the most proven is in fact the underestimated Storm Shadow. With this missile, the British where BIG part of shock & awe in the first days of OIF, engaging the superMEZ with a totally unstealthy aircraft like Tornado.

The whole idea is, it is not so much necessary that your aircraft is stealthy as long as your long range missile is.

There is a lot of talk about Jassm, but Storm Shadow can say: been there, done that.

The ''selling point'' of the AGM-158 JASSM is that it's supposed to be a stealth cruise missile, so no fighter with an AESA can detect it and shoot it down.

IIRC only 3 or 4 Storm Shadows were fired because it was so new. It was rushed into the warzone and none of the crews had done any training with it.

The Storm Shadow is part of the SCALP EG missile family. The French version is called the SCALP EG and will be used on the Rafale and Mirage 2000D.

Are there any videos from Meteor BVRAAM live test?

The Storm Shadow is also stealthy (probably not as much as Jassm though) and was launched 26 times, each with success, at high value, very protected targets. Is was an essential part of the effort to decapitate CC in the early hours of the war. Indeed, SS didn't have OIC at that moment, but performed extraordinary well (jee, I'm a little loose with superlatives and I don't even work for MBDA :)

The fine thing about it is its kinetic energy when it hits the target. Really shattering.

But back to topic now: Meteor!
