Will Leatherneck supply a western carrier too or will we need the one that is going to come with DCS F-18?

Also, when bombing, does the Tomcat use it's radar or will it only need the LANTIRN pod?

Thanks!

Can not wait for this title!!!

It has not yet been confirmed that we're getting a Tomcat that can use LANTIRN. IIRC, not all B's were LANTIRN capable.

Who knows about the carrier... F-18 is ways off.

The Carrier will be updated as an asset in DCS World. You will not need to buy DCS F/A-18C to use the new carrier.

Now, the question is will the carrier rework be complete prior to the release of the F-18 for use with other modules.... Only ED can answer that one.

From the pics released so far, we see the a/g pallets are modeled and of the 2 shoulder stations, 1 has a Sparrow and the other, where the LANTIRN will go, is blank. I assume we will get a ground strike ability. If not, my enthusiasm just decreased a little bit. :(

Ground strike capability is not in question. Precision guided munitions are though.

Wouldnt they release it witht he Tomcat though? "I" think the Tomcat will be released before the F18.

Unless they just happen to co-incide on the same patch release, there's no link between LN's Tomcat and the updated carrier code that ED have to create for the DCS World platform.

I'd suspect we'd get any new carriers (and supporting DCS:W changes) independant of any airframe, as we've already got a carrier capable airframe which to use on it.

There is a western carrier already in the game with working catapults and arresting gear?

The current DCS World Nimitz can be used, albeit, there are lots of problems with it since it was never intended for human launch and recovery operations.

The OP that you quoted was referring to carrier capable aircraft, not "ships."

This is one the community really doesn't need to focus too hard on since ED have announced that they are working on improved carrier ops. Now this doesn't preclude LNS from developing their own, just that it's not a wise use of resources at the moment.

SniperXR pod is produced by Lockheed, Lartirn is also by them, Lintening is produced by Northrop and Israel Rafael corp together, ATFLIR is by Raytheon.

Lockheed didn't give ED license of SniperXR, and ATFLIR and Lintening is still in used, so maybe we won't have any licensed targeting pod in the future...

and I still hope we can have more feature in dcs.

True that. There is more to carrier ops the cats and wires. At least a LSO, and a meatball are also needed for any "normal" landing as well. Possibly a hangar storage if want to get into neat picking :P

Where did you get this information regarding an updated carrier?

The only information I had on it was when CTD said in a press release they were working on a carrier that would be released with the super hornet.

Now that the Super hornet has been put on hold that also means all their other projects are no doubt put on hold.

I don't ever remember reading that DCS, ED or the fighter collection where releasing an updated carrier with the C Variant that is being worked on in the current news letter and previous news letters.

You should go and read the press releases from Wags. He specifically mentions that they are working on improved Carrier ops to coincide with the F/A-18C.

edit:

thank you revelation, I found the press release you mention

In addition to the actual aircraft, there are other elements that need to be created such as an improved Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, much better carrier operations, and a new combat theater map tailored to this aircraft.

We hear you and realize that many of you are very anxious and looking forward to hearing more about this project. As we get closer to an early beta, we will be discussing this more.

The team is currently working on a new combat theater map to support DCS: F/A-18C Hornet.”
