Kusch Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Russian military maneuvers Rybej 2004 And... Give me "flying telephone pole" (SA-2)!
Dutch60 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Nice screen shot's! i9 13900KS (H150i), RTX 4090, 64 GB RAM @ 6000 MHz CL30, TM Warthog HOTAS + MFD's, MFG Crosswind, LG 48GQ900, Valve Index VR, TrackIR 5, Win11 Pro x64
SwingKid Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Are you sure those are RWR antennas? #25 is the only Ka-50 that is equipped with experimental laser jammers, I think that might be what those are. -SK
Trident Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I don't think they're RWR antennae either, but AFAIK the laser jammers were mounted in FLIR-like ball turrets near the main landing gear. My guess would be that they're infrared missile approach warner lenses. EDIT: Have a look below the rocket pod in the first picture. Behind the open access panel you can actually see what I'm talking about, that metallic semisphere is what I believe to be one of two laser jammer turrets.
Kusch Posted April 28, 2006 Author Posted April 28, 2006 This is L- 140 Otklik laser warning system... will we see this in Black Shark ? Give me "flying telephone pole" (SA-2)!
Han Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 No any info for it, but this is not impossibe scenario ;) With Best Regards! Daniel Tuseyev Il-2: Battle of Stalingrad and Rise Of Flight projects manager
Kusch Posted April 28, 2006 Author Posted April 28, 2006 No any info for it, but this is not impossibe scenario ;) Cross fingers. EDIT: Have a look below the rocket pod in the first picture. Behind the open access panel you can actually see what I'm talking about, that metallic semisphere is what I believe to be one of two laser jammer turrets. Maybe L-136 Mak? ;) IR warning system. Trident Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 If so then it's a new version that is very different to the original. On almost all pictures of Mak sensors I have seen you can clearly make out 'spots' that are probably optical windows/apertures. http://www.foxbat.ru/maks/brzeg_164ograp/index.php?picid=brzeg_164ograp025

Iron Legionnaire Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Anyone know what is going on with this one? Ka-50N. Night-attack version w/ FLIR turret.
EvilBivol-1 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Ka-50N. Night-attack version w/ FLIR turret. Ka-50Sh actually. As for the above pictures, as was said, those are not RWR antennae, but warning/jamming system for protection from IR SAMs (presumably the MANPAD threat). Supposed to work by detecting and analyzing rocket ignition, which identifies the particular missile and (semi?)automatically take defensive measures, which would include maneuvering, flare despensing, and missile seeker jamming. This is way beyond 'Mak'. AFAIK, neither of these versions has reached service with the military, although the latter aircraft did participate in a training excercise in central asia, I believe. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Maybe it is just me, but I looked at the first picture and instead of thinking about laser / missile warning systems, I was thinking could Han add a rainbow into the weather in Black Shark ? After all, we already have the sun peeking throught the overcast....;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
Weta43 Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 That would be a nice touch - & fairly simple to calculate too ! Cheers.

Weta43 Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Yep - I'd say strobes before rainbows, but if there's someone working on the lights & someone else on the weather, & the weather guy wants something to do during his evening off ... Cheers.
