whitehot Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I understand that the Hip is, development wise, still somewhat behind in the current state. But I was wondering, will it ever get ATGMs in its loadouts? AFAIK, Swatter and Sagger missiles were employed by some of the Mi-8 variants. Although those weapon systems are largely obsolete, it would be a very nice addition to the capabilities of the chopper. The AT-3 already exists in DCS, as it is mounted by the BMP-1. I presume that in updated versions, both AT-2 and AT-3 should have SACLOS guidance. In our case it would be particularly challenging to employ the missiles, even in a hovering helicopter (no auto-tracking like the ka50 - have to keep the aimpoint on the target until the end): nonetheless, the inclusion of these weapons would be beneficial imho 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Intel i7 6700K @ 4.2, MSI M5 Z170A Gaming, NZXT X61 Kraken liquid cooler, PNY Nvidia GTX 1080 Founders Edition, 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3000 Mhz C15, samsung 840 evo SSD, CoolerMaster 1000W Gold rated PSU, NZXT Noctis 450 cabinet, Samsung S240SW 24' 1920x1200 LED panel, X-52 Pro Flight stick. ED Team Raptor9 Posted March 22, 2015 ED Team Posted March 22, 2015 It's not just the missile coding and carriage on the chopper, but BST would have to make an entire panel for the SACLOS guidance system in the cockpit, update the external model with the targeting system fairing, etc. I have no clue what they will do in the future, but at the moment they probably have a lot on their plate between the MiG-15bis, future modules, and supporting existing modules compatibility with EDGE development. Afterburners are for wussies...hang around the battlefield and dodge tracers like a man. DCS Rotor-Head
Slazi Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I would imagine these would get implemented at some point during the Mi-24P development. The sooner the better.
MAD-MM Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Even the newest Variant of the MI-8 the MTV 5 bought by the Russian army is without the possibility to fire ATGM's. The main task for the MI-8 is carry troops, Mi-8 is not build for extensive fighting like combat halo, no armour and survivability.... It's only build demonstrator Models by MIL... For my 5 cents should more concentrated on self defence weapons like door gunners PKT and grenade launcher for the future Once you have tasted Flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your Eyes turned Skyward.
