Hello everybody!

I wanted to get into flight sims for the longest time, and I have finaly jumped in! I bought myself a TM warthog, rudder pedals and my TrackIR is on the way, so I'm pretty much set on the hardware side of things.

However, when it comes to software and configuration, I am a bit confused...

Do I really need to download (or create) a profile for my hotas using TARGET? It seems to work fine in "plug and play" in the A-10C but, as I don't really know what I'm doing in the jet yet, maybe I am missing out on key functions.

I also bought Black Shark 2 (thank you Steam sale :) ), do I need to create a profile for that?

So I am slowly learning the aircraft, reading the manual and going through the tutorials and I wanted to know what would be a good time to jump into multi player. Of course I plan to become more acquainted with the beast first but I just wanted to take the temperature of online games: are they cut-throat competitive? Or are there noob friendly servers with people willing to help beginners?

And one final question. I went through the cold start up procedure on the ramp, with the manual on my lap to make sur I didn't forget anything (except weapons, I'm not there yet ^^). However I had trouble with my wheel brakes. I assigned it to toe brakes on my pedals but it seems that they are always on, and I release the brakes when I push on the toe brakes and keep them down. It seems counter-intuitive for me, did I configure something wrong or is it the way it is meant to be?

Whelp, that's about it for now :) I hope you guys could shed some light on my questions and digest that first, lengthy, nooby post on this forum! I'm sure I will be back soon with more questions.

Hey there. Welcome.

First quesion : No you do not need to use TARGET. I think the majority of people will advise that you do (they always did for me , anyway) but it is in no way nececary. I only use my profiler software for a few essential commands and bind the rest trough the game itsellf. (PS : I do not use a tm warthog mysellf , but the general idea should be the same)

Also , for me whenever i learn a new jet , binding the hotas commands is one of the hardest parts becouse you don't exacly know what you will need and what you wont need, but if you slowly tweak it over time it will all work out.

Second question : You cap hop into multiplayer any time you want. There's plenty of people that take on noobies to teach them the ropes , and there's also people who prefer to only play with experienced people. It's a natural evolution sorta thing. (check the multiplayer section of the forums for more info)

Third question , the wheel brake axis is most likely inverted. Go into your control settings < A10C SIM < axis commands < "wheel brakes (or however the axis is called)" , click it once , click "axis tune" in the botton , then tick "inverted" (or untick if it's already ticked)

hope it helped

For the A-10C you don't need Target. For BS is may be a good idea but take the advice from someone who actually flies the Shark.

As for multi player servers there are plenty of virtual squadrons that takes trainees of different levels. You can check it out in the Multi player section of the Forum

The toe brakes needs to be inverted in the Options -Control section. Find axis and each toe brake. Highlight one by one and click axis adjustment (I think, on my cell phone)

Hey,

Most of the questions have been answered, so I will say more about multiplayer- there are different squadrons accepting people with different skill levels, but as a rule of the thumb most of these focused on really serious flying will accept only pilots with good basic skills. Having said that, you will find many people in MP willing to teach you and share their knowledge. Should be enough to shout here should you wish to find someone to help you. Thank you everyone for your answers! Toe brakes work fine now, and I started to pratice the weapon systems. I will wait a bit to jump into multiplayer :)

However, I ran into a little issue with my HUD: it is fairly difficult to read sometimes, as the green of the HUD doesn't really stand out against the sky or the green terrain. Is there a way to make it stand out more in the cockpit or does it have to do with the colour settings of my monitor or graphics drivers?

I too have that problem with the HUD. I look forward to better answers, but in the meantime some.times it helps to change the HUD from day to night. The switch is located on the front, lower left. If I remember correctly it is right below the arming switches.

I don't at the moment fly the A-10 that much, but when I did I suffered the same and found this mod helped slightly, it doesn't change the colour, but you have three options to choose from regarding text size.

Hope this helps.

You can change HUD intensity with a rocker switch under the HUD. To see it you have to kind of raise your head to see the rocker switch labeled INT I believe.

There is a setting for HUD color also, although I can't remember where I found it. Check the manual.

Good luck!

Thank you for the bigger HUD font, this is great! Also, and I should have done my research before posting, I managed to display the HUD in black, which stands out so much better against the sky (although I haven't tested it at dawn or dusk, but it works great during the day). Here's the link in case you want to switch colours around :) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68562&page=2

EDIT: a black HUD is clearly visible at dawn. So glad I found this :)
