Nate--IRL-- Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Just a quick idea for those of us with Track IR. Would it be possible to implement a system that uses cross hair when looking down in the pit, so you can flick switches with out taking you hand off you Hotas/Joystick.? You would simply look at the switch, press a key on your joystick, switch flicked. So much easier than grabbing for the mouse, holding your head very still, clicking the switch, especially in a tense situation. Discuss.... RedAssAg05 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I think, if you calibrated the TIR to the right point, where that were possible without the 'crosshair' moving all over the cockpit, you would then lose the speed and fluidity that makes flying with the TIR so much fun. Seems to me this idea would suffer the same problems that using the TIR4 with First person shooters does...lack of precision.
Weta43 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 In a tense situation maybe use the keyboard or HOTAS as you do now (map anything you might need in a tense situation, leave anything you don't to the mouse ?) That is why HOTAS were developed, so the pilot wouldn't have to go taking their eye's off the ball. Cheers.

When looking around in the cockpit, you have yellow cross hair that follows your view around and changes appearance to little green arrow symbols when passing over a "clickable" switch(up-down arrow) or dial(circular arrow) :) . On my old X-36 system there is a "mouse fire" button, which can be programmed to act as the left mouse button and I have been using it in the way you suggested :) . So much easier than grabbing for the mouse, holding your head very still, clicking the switch, especially in a tense situation. Yes and no ;) . The cross hair will follow you view, but can be moved independantly of this with the mouse and you might find that it easier to manipulate switches/dials this way as it can be rather tricky to hold you view steady enough to keep the "cross hair" exactly over the switch in order to activate it. Cheers, - JJ. JJ
warthogmadman987 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I was hoping for this and thought that if it works right it would be easier!
Kenan Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I don't think it would work in a real furball. Sometimes when I'm engaged, pressing all the pre-programmed switches on my X52 (+keyboard) makes quite a challenge (even without neccessarily looking at them ie. knowing where they are), let alone pointing my head at that very moment down to the cockpit instruments in order to click something. Maybe it's a different thing with a chopper, or I should just wait and see how it works by myself. Wild.Bill.Kelso Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I must be missing something..... Does Lockon have a 'Clickable Cockpit'???? Mine doesn't. Or is the new Ka-50 version going to have one??????

Or is the new Ka-50 version going to have one?????? no, lockon right now (aka version 1.12a) doesnt have a clickable cockpit. However, to my knowledge, in BS, the Ka-50 is the only flyable that will have a clickable cockpit.
