Tombstone Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Well i believe like certain sams you can optically guide the missle aka a like a tow missle. Which i believe was enabled a few patches ago? Hence the no laser warning received. TOW is not optically guided but it optically tracks target. Its wire guided. Those two things, target tracking and guidance, are orthogonal. Both TOW and Shkval/Vikhr optically tracks its target, difference is that Shkval/Vikhr will trigger targets LWR since its LASER beam rider, while TOW will not. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
Catastrophy Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I'm now making a list with the ranges of main threats, IIRC it was possible somehow to add contents to the kneepad, right? 6 km is a pretty safe distance from threats.
Isegrim Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 6 km is a pretty safe distance from threats. Ahm No.... "Blyat Naaaaa" - Izlom
Stratos Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 6 km is a pretty safe distance from threats. Maybe for Vikhrs, but I'm pretty sure I will not be able to hit a Il-76 with FP2 rockets at that distance. I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
Isegrim Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Use of type of weapon is connected to which type of Target is being attacked by the KA-50 Pilot. Why should someone attack a parking Plane or Truck with a Vikhr ? Please keep in mind that those Weapons have a different cost effectivity. "Blyat Naaaaa" - Izlom

The cost effectivity calculation will look much worse if you use the cheaper, shorter ranged weapon .... but get your whole helo shot down by a previously unnoticed manpad! ;o)

On the other Hand in DCS you can easy do roadkills to Manpads. :megalol: "Blyat Naaaaa" - Izlom
Stratos Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 On the right rear panel to select proper rocket, which number is for the FP2 warhead? I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
ShuRugal Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 TOW is not optically guided but it optically tracks target. Its wire guided. Those two things, target tracking and guidance, are orthogonal. Both TOW and Shkval/Vikhr optically tracks its target, difference is that Shkval/Vikhr will trigger targets LWR since its LASER beam rider, while TOW will not. To be more specific, both missiles are SACLOS-guided: neither one of them has the capability of tracking the target. the TOW missile uses a beacon on the back of the missile to be visible to the launcher, which then sends commands to steer it to the center of the camera frame. The Vikhr launching platform creates a tunnel of laser energy, which the missile steers itself to stay in the center of. On the right rear panel to select proper rocket, which number is for the FP2 warhead? http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/602834/ This mod puts a chart on the panel beside the selector knob to show which does what. Also adds a list of ATC freqs to the door panel.
