kmstewart64 Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 When flying the Su25T, sometimes the Shekval will Lock the target but sometimes it will not. I can shoot 4-5 missiles with everything working great then all of a sudden the Shkval will not lock target. I change the box size with no better results. Nothing! At this point I fly back to base because nothing will lock. Any ideas? MORG
pepin1234 Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 this question is for the DCS World forum. The lock depend of the light, target size, distance. You should set the right size for the reticle, for a tank is 10. If you have a day with poor light then you should take the Mercury pod. Anyway, if you already stabilized the reticle on the target and not AC authorized, then you can do an override when you are within all the parameter of the hardware to use. This mean, launch between 10-8 km at 2500-2000m altitude, speed less than 450 km, no pitching, no rolling in the first stage of the missile launched, never get closer than 5 km, so turn before dispensing Flare and diving back with your engine at 60 %. :book: Sound hard to do but after you take the control of this you will hear the jealous A-10C pilots what they use to say about this flaying tank. go ahead!! Goldham Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 And the TV guided missiles really hate to give LA if your using the LLTV. I recommend switching to normal TV once you have found some targets.
AldoUSMC Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Concur with above and lighting is a big deal as pepin1234 notes. That's a good check MORG (what was illum level?)... since you wrote you spent some time flying around engaging..then it stopped working for you. If you are flying near dusk or dawn and want to used TV vice LLTV... you can always carry a couple SAB-100s to light up the target area...or have a buddy fly an Illum mission in support of your strike and keep it lit up for ya ! Launch Override can help save you if you just have to fire for some reason and know your target is gated but not locked..... RAZBAM_ELMO Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Yes, the Shkval doesn't like to lock unless it has good parameters and reflection on target which is why you won't always get a solid lock untill you get within 15km range. Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass. — Dave 'Preacher' Pace, USN.

TV Guided missiles need also a good Contrast to the Backround like the Shkval does. So using them at Night or Bad visibility is more or less useless. "Blyat Naaaaa" - Izlom
esb77 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 A bit of clarity on the Mercury LLTV pod and the TV guided missiles. The Mercury pod enhances what you can see on the CRT display in the plane's cockpit, but does nothing at all to enhance the ability of the camera in the missile's seeker head to see in the dark. So it is basically of no benefit at all with the TV guided missiles. For the laser guided munitions, the missile will do its best to fly to the location being illuminated (or ride the beam if it's a Vikhr), and so the visibility from the LLTV pod is very useful. However, sometimes the improved visibility isn't enough to make the plane's computer happy with getting a lock. In this case, just stabilize the target box with respect to the ground, and then manually slew the center of the box over the target. It works just as well as a lock, though you have to keep slewing to stay on a moving target. Also be aware that the guidelines in the manual are not perfect when it comes to sizing the targeting box. Often vehicles recommended to be targeted with a 10 m size will lock much better if the box is sized to 8 or 9 m. I normally center the box on the target and adjust until the box is just a few pixels wider than the image of the target on the Shkval screen. It's a noticeable improvement over just using the recommended sizes. Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes. I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.
