Pilum Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Interesting read! Pilum do you publish your simulation results anywhere? So far only in flight sim forums under user name Holtzauge (I originaly registered in DCS for the jet part and missile flight modeling which is why it's Pilum here). Recently I also posted some stuff in another contemporary flight sim forum (no names :music_whistling:) but unlike DCS where we can have these interesting FM discussions, the devs there seem to put it mildly not very interested in a dialogue which is why DCS IMHO is the best flight sim environment right now. When it comes to publishing, yes well one can dream and when I retire I plan to do something but that alas is still some years away.:( Old Crow ECM motto: Those who talk don't know and those who know don't talk........ Ramstein Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 like with what they say about flying full real... in combat... if you don't want outside views because that isn't real, etc..etc.. consider the full real experience, blow up some bombs around you, have someone take a hammer and ropes and smack you around... then you are getting closer to full real combat... you are suppose to have fun in a simulator, not make it less fun... :pilotfly: ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR

Accurate simulation. You can find your definition of "fun" in other games. Sims are to reflect reality. This doesn't mean you have to be able to simulate bleeding and death of your friends...-.- Also, external views destroy advantages and disadvantages that come from different cockpits. Try spoting in a Bf109 and then P-51, and see the difference. ------------------------------- To me it is wierd that both Fw190D9 and Bf109K4 in DCS (if I understand that correctly) will have 26m/s climb rate. While according to the data, as I remember it, the Fw190D9 best ROC with C3 was around 21m/s while Bf109K4 with the same fuel could get 24m/s. I've never understood why some people on the DCS forum--of all places--have a "lol who cares about realism" attitude. What are you even doing here? The thing that makes the max-fidelity DCS aircraft unique is the max-realism approach. If you don't care about realism, there are much more smooth-running, well-populated, and easy-to-play flying games out there, in which you'd (doubtless) feel more at home. Some of us are here because we want it to be exactly like flying the real airplanes. That's fun. The more like being in a real airplane, the more fun--with the sole exception of real {death, pain, & aircraft loss}. No one wants that, and it's stupid to imply that {wanting it to be exactly like flying a real warbird in every other area} should also mean wanting real {death, pain, & aircraft loss}. Are you serious? I can't tell if you're being thick or just trolling. Hell, the only reason I'm here in a flight sim instead of flying the real deal is that you need to be rich & healthy to fly for real. Edited May 26, 2015 by Echo38 1
upupandaway Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I did try it, and I can't spot a thing from the cockpit of either one! Sorry, but I couldn't resist.;) It´s an interesting experience. The 109 is a lot of fun to fly and learn, but the confused and cramped cockpit layout in combination with the massive canopy frame make it incredibly hard to manage during an engagement. Take your eyes off the target a little too long to find and check something -> you lose - at least when you are used to the 190D9-cockpit or better... Nevertheless it´s starting to grow on me.
