Actually I am not very sure what is the russian CAS fixed wing for anti-tank task. They have the Su-25SM and the Su-25UBM still in developing, left the targeting pod and the ant-tank missile. The missile should be the air version of the Pantsir missile, the Hermes-A. "Supposed still in developing"

I am sure they would use the Mig-27 Flogger for that task. it was introduced in the early 70's so viable for the OP's question of 80's. it could fire a variety of precision munitions like Kh-23 (AS-7 Kerry), Kh-25ML (AS-10 Karen) and Kg-25MP (AS-12 Kegler). For SEAD role it could fire AS-9 Kyle anti-radar missiles. it even has a 6x30mm rotary cannon for strafing. here's a nice documentary if you want to know more.

No, Mig-27 have been taken out from the active russian Air Force. All the single engine aircrafts were discontinued. Some of the reason are they have more accident probability

S-8, S-24, S-25 rockets. The S-8 rockets is more common because is used against different targets, like infantry targets and MBT armors.

in DCS For S-8 rocket you need to do a dive above the MBT to hit the top and rear parts. you need training and then you can hit multiple units at a pass.

S-8 rocket bombing by Mig-29 in Syria

Absolute BS. That warhead was WAY larger than found on an S-8, and moreover, was a single warhead, not a ripple of rockets. There was a better chance that was an F-22 JDAM than MiG-29 firing S-8. No way of knowing what delivered the ordnance (or even that it was in fact air delivered), but it sure wasn't any 80mm rocket.

Could be also a S-24 rocket. Here you can see better S-8 stations in a Syrian Mig-29. A huge bunch of S-8 also. Anyway is a rocket attack by a Russian aircraft and for sure is using the same weapon that use the Su-25. So what we try to show here is that such attack with Russian rockets could be deadly.

This is a good video where you can see an Ukranian Su-25 shoting S-8 rockets against the Ukranian Russian spoken population. compare with the other explotion, look like the Mig-29 "S-8 attack". In this case the shot is dispersed cus the attack angle. also the video is taken furthermost than the Syrian one.

I would be cautious with such statements using an edited video and scratching hard along the forum rules.

To answer the OP question I would also vote for the S-8. It would be the simple number of rockets achieving mission kills on some MBT's.

spectacular video in Syria. Here we can see how this tank is hit by two non guided weapons. I mean, I am not sure if these two are bombs or S-24 rockets. What do you think??
