MonsterZero Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 OK, I think I understand the RSBN/ARK system, you enter a frequency and the needle turns telling me "this is the azimuth to the transmitter". What I want to know is can Mig-21 follow a flight plan from way point to way point like the modern aircraft in the "NAV" mode on the HUD? If not, how do you guys fly a plan with waypoints? Use the kneeboard to mark the position and adjust? Art-J Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 What I want to know is can Mig-21 follow a flight plan from way point to way point like the modern aircraft in the "NAV" mode on the HUD? Nope, it cannot. Its autopilot did not have such a functionality. If not, how do you guys fly a plan with waypoints? Use the kneeboard to mark the position and adjust? That is an idea, but some might consider it to be cheating (the "mark position" part). Want ot be more hardcore? The RSBN is a direct equivalent of Western VOR/DME system. So it doesn't provide azimuth information only, but measures distance to beacon as well. As long as You are within range of at least two beacons, You can define a waypoint as a crossing of two radials i.e. fly along a chosen radial for a specified number of kilometers and then turn to intercept another radial. Fly a "Round the Map" single mission, which comes with MiG-21 module to see how it works. Make sure, however, that You have about 3,5 hours to spare, because that's how long this mission lasts :D. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
zaelu Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 You can fly also using Arc system but you need a good use of map ruler tool so you find the angles you should have on different stations. Also being able to calculate ETA on certain point on the map is a plus. ESAc_matador Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Nop, it has not wps or navigation computer. This kind of flight navgation is really inmersive. You can use F10 map to do the distance and radials needed. Previous flight plan are need, or recommended.
KEULE Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) Mig21 does not even have a single computer! Just some wiring and a few lamps. Thats it. What you may call a computer were as big as many rooms back then. So no, no autopilot for waypoints. In addition autopilot waypoint navigation would need GPS and back in the 50s there were no single satellite in orbit and GPS wasn't even invented. Edited June 10, 2015 by KEULE If I would like to fly SFM I could get it for free at World of Warplanes. You only need 2 of the following 3: Altitude - Speed - Skill
