I have a few questions that I can't find answers to in the manual..

Is there an Engine Shutdown procedure?

I switched everything off in the the reverse order of how I started up yesterday, and even with everything shut off, my engines were still running. Is this a bug?

How to Open the Canopy?

I unlocked the canopy and clicked on the top center, where that bar was before I closed it. But it would not open.

1) After moving throttle lever to idle, did You click the black lock behind it to move the lever back to engine-off position?

2) You have to click the tip of the bar/rod not where it was with canopy open, but where it is with canopy closed, i.e. down the left edge of it, close to the windscreen.

Thank you. You are correct on both things. I did not click the throttle switch like I should have. But even with the fuel pump shut off it runs? But I will try that.

And I didn't know about the canopy rod. Will try that also.

Also, in Chucks Mig21 Guide, he says to contact the Ground Crew and connect ground power when starting up. However, that is not mentioned as one of the steps in the official MiG21bis pdf. What is the difference? Is it just not necessary, as in an 'optional' step in the startup procedure?

Not required to connect ground power unless your battery is too dead to start the engine

Re. fuel pumps vs. engine, the topic was discussed here before, but we didn't come to final conclusions. It's possible that working booster pumps are not really always mandatory (as the engine sucks the fuel with its own pump anyway), unless some high fuel pressure demand is there (high thrust, afterburner on, 0-g maneuvers etc.). Our P-51 works that way, for example. In MiG-15 You also turn off one of two pumps before stopping the engine.

It's just a guess though.

You specifically build aircraft not to rely on one pump for feeding the engine. You typically have an engine driven pump, hooked up to the auxiliary gearbox (i e driven off the shaft of the engine) and a boost pump in each tank, each independently capable of delivering enough fuel to the engine for safe flight, but possibly (probably, in the case of engines with reheat) not maximum power, should the other pump fail.

You wouldn't want to have the engine quit on you in flight due to a simple boost pump failure.

I created a fast mission, and the Ground Crew is disabled in the menus. What is the reason for this? Is there some setting in the mission builder that needs to be set?

I've created other fast missions and the Ground Crew was working in the menus.

Apart from necessity of assigning an airbase to your side (Blue or Red), You shouldn't have to do anything else.

Thanks.

Well, I had turned Easy Comms on on the Options a few days ago. A poster said it might fix my ATC menu problems. But it didn't, as I found out the radio menus with the MiG are bugged right now.

So, I just turned Easy Comms off in the Options, and it fixed it. All of the menus are there. Maybe part of the bug?..
