So, I wonder (though seriously doubt) if there's any chance of AGM-12 inclusion at some point.

 

 

It could be fired from the F-5A, surely that capability extends to the E? Or were modifications required? A special control panel in the cockpit, or similar?

a Special control was needed for the AGM-12

(There was a small joystick that was used to steer the AGM-12 towards the target)

 

Its possible that the F-5E could be fitted (or modified) with the controls needed to use the AGM-12

 

(have not found definitive evidence either way)

 

But it would very unlikely be factory standard

 

And by the 70s there where better options available (like the AGM-65) for when it came to guided munitions and plenty of F-5Es where AGM-65 capable (a different radar display was fitted that could display the seeker info from the AGM-65)

It all came down to customer preference if they wanted the F-5Es to be AGM-65 capable or not.

 

But the variant we are getting is not AGM-65 capable.

 

my guess would be that the F-5E-3 we are getting is not AGM-12 capable.

 

 

And while having the AGM-12 would be nice and interesting i would much prefer having AGM-65s (or both).

 

But for now unless something changes we have to get used to only having unguided weapons.

Well if it doesn't have the controls in the cockpit, I don't see how it could happen. Not that I wouldn't like bullpups, but only if it could fire them.

Definitely, I often opt for unguided munitions just to up the fun. This is why I'm looking forward to stuff like the Tornado appearing in DCS.. :joystick:

Great photo, it shows the degradation of the paintwork, and general grubbiness of the older plane, next to the newer (or maybe 44 just hasn't had a wash in a while).

Thanks. The Swiss are pretty obsessed about cleaning their planes . Our tiger fleet is getting very old. A few had to be removed from service due to structural integrity problems.

You can carry alot of bombs / rockets.

 

I just wish they made a AGM-65 capable variant =P.

 

Would have been awsome if they had modeled a Swiss F-5E since that would guarantee a all aspect Aim-9P (P4/P5)

 

And also a number of Swiss F-5Es where AGM-65 capable.

 

So it would give us the best of both worlds =).

 

But yea while i can live without guided air-ground weapons they really

NEED to give it the option to carry either the aim-9P4 or the Aim-9P5 (all aspect variants of the Aim-9P)

 

for me i hope they add atleast 3 differnt air to air missiles.

 

Aim-9B (for early) Aim-9P3 Or Aim-9J (For mid periods) and Aim-9P4 or P5 for 80s or later.

The p4 or p5 all aspect converts would be nice since f5 we are getting will have only just 2 on the wingtips

and it would also be a historical armament for the 80s (and later)

 

and since the mig-21 already gets 1980s armement (in the R-60M)

 

as such i dont think there is any reason not to add a P4 or P5 to the F-5E.

Indeed, I used to really enjoy watching the various European F-5s (and F-104s for that matter) rolling in and out of Gütersloh in the '70s.

 

I used to get fed up of the mags always choosing to show photo's and profile the Tiger rather than the Freedom Fighter!

 

Having some European N/A/B paints on the E will be a nice nostalgia trip, even without the wingtip tanks :)

According to the manual (real plane) it has an "AN/ASG-29 Optical Sight." I was unable to find any additional info on it or a picture with the device turned on. However, I think it is purely a weapon sight.

I'm surprised by how hard it is to find a picture of the ASG-29 symbology, yet to find a single one.

 

That said, it will probably be similar to these:

The AN/ASG-29 is of similar vintage to these, probably will be similar. Best I could find.
