Bucic Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Hello There is one little thing i am not sure to understand. The room temperature is 30°C, and the cpu temps is 15°C. I think your cpu run at 77°C under load. Try CPUID HWMonitor or CoreTemp. Those are false readings. The sensor does not report correctly below ~25 deg C. tovivan Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Hello There is one little thing i am not sure to understand. The room temperature is 30°C, and the cpu temps is 15°C. The cpu temp should be ~39°C. I think your cpu run at ~79°C under load. Try "CPUID HWMonitor" AND "CoreTemp". I will test after reset of computer cause for some reason since I started it it's been consistently working at max mhz (right now 4 ghz) even though I'm not doing anything except surfing. Shouldn't do that. Probably because of bios mess-up. :( I have the OHM gadget turned on that shows me cpu core 1-8 clocks and temps, plus fan #1 speed and gpu temp (35 idle, normal game 60-65'C).
Demon_ Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Enable the halt state (C1E) in the mobo bios. Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
tovivan Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Enable the halt state (C1E) in the mobo bios. Thanks, that did it. Is there any downside to C1E being disabled? What is the upside of it running at max all the time? Less time to "power up"?
Demon_ Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Is there any downside to C1E being disabled? Not really But "yes" only if you run at high overclock and high Vcore. Less time to power up? No The cpu is "load" when you power up, and run at full frequency. The halt state (C1E) disengage. Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
tovivan Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Thanks! EDIT: how reliable is OHW? Taken a minute ago at idle. Edited July 30, 2015 by tovivan
zxarkov Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Go for a Noctua air cooling kit. Its a Excellent air cooling solution and super quiet. Made is Austria, great warranty. I went with it vs a corsair liquid cooling kit due to cost/case mounting factors. I would also really advise against Enermax fans at least. They're an established brand as far as power supplies go but they're using it to sell crappy fans. No better than the cheapest Cooler Master fans. OnlyforDCS Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) Just a quick update. Have decided to go for the EVO 212. It's on sale with one of my local retailers and seems like a best buy solution at this time. Will report back with some subjective opinions/results once Ive installed it and tried it later today or tomorrow. Thanks for all your help. Oh man, I just some video and it appears I will have to dismantle my entire case so I can get the back plate on the motherboard...Not looking forward to that... :/ Edited August 18, 2015 by OnlyforDCS Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

OnlyforDCS Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 Ok some thoughts & first impressions. The cooler was not very difficult to install, but Ive been tinkering with PC hardware for the better part of the last 20 years so there is that. The improvement in games was very distinct and noticeable. I haven't done any direct FPS tests but every game Ive tried (HOTS, Witcher3, DCS World) played much smoother. I only tried a short P51 free flight in DCS for a few minutes but there seemed to be far fewer frame-rate drops (actually none that I could notice) which makes me believe that for all this time there was at least some CPU heat throttling going on before the EVO upgrade. I even tried a minor overclock boost (from 4 to 4.2Ghz) but haven't pushed it any higher although I feel that if I could get 4 Ghz on the stock cooler I could push it pretty hard. Very happy with the purchase, this was a significant upgrade and very highly recommended to anyone still sticking with a stock cooling option. Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Cibit Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I have my son's I5 running at 3.4 and with stock cooler ran at 90c while stress testing with prime. Some have better heat tolerance, some have huge overclocking potential. In any case, these worries are a thing of the past now :) Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
Cibit Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 What are your ram speed and timing running at 4.2 ? And mb ? i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
OnlyforDCS Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) What are your ram speed and timing running at 4.2 ? And mb ? It's been a while since Ive checked those numbers (basically since I bought the ram) so honestly I can't remember. Will check and post when I get home from work today. The MB is Gigabyte, Z chipset, also can't recall exactly which number, the one that supports with Ivy Bridge processors. Ok checked the Ram, its 2x 8GB 1333 DDR3, haven't fiddled with the timing numbers, haven't clocked it or anything. I think the make is Corsair. Cibit Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Do you use cpu id ? That will pretty much give you all the numbers for everything. I find invaluable when I o/c especially when tweaking in Windows i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

BitMaster Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 here is a nice guide to i5 IvyBridge overclocking http://www.overclock.net/t/1291703/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboards it says Asus board but the info is also general and a good start to get voltages and temps correct. ...keep it cool Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
BitMaster Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 also, as you cann see in my sig, 1.3Volts for 4.8GHz... when I started with this CPU it had already served 3+ years 365 in a Win2008R2 server and I thought it is well burned in...well SCREW THAT !!! I started successfully with 4.8/1.45V and...over time I could lower Voltage to 1.3V STABLE at all times. It will even do it @1.25V but very strangely it will not do it in 1 step, I have to go to 1.3 first and then go to 1.25...for whatever reason. If I go directly 1.25 it locks up....so I stay with an always working 1.30Volts and was ablte to cut temps by a whole lot when the ztemp outside was 110°F and my WC already boiling in idle at 3.4.... that's when I needed lower voltages and found out it now works with far less voltage after having been used several hundred hours @4.8/1.45V. .15V more is a lot....so maybe yopu are lucky too after 2-3 month of burning it in.
