xray20 Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 (edited) Hi All, I finally got around to publishing a video of the pit in action. You can see it on YouTube ${1} The video embedder seems to have a fault. You can find the video here Edited August 2, 2015 by xray20

tintifaxl Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Comgrats on such a nice pit! Wish I had the space (and the understanding wife ;)) Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
icemaker Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Very nice! Very interested in how you made the HUD!
xray20 Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Really great pit! Congrats. But, how about MFDs? Why are they on main screen? Two reasons for the MFDs on the main screen. 1) I have run out of video ports on the main PC 2) They will need special (probably Lilliput) monitors. MFDs are the next step but I'm waiting for DCS2.0 and either a chance find of some monitors on Ebay or a spare £500
xray20 Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Very nice! Very interested in how you made the HUD! I have to admit I'm cheating on the HUD. I did have a design with a projector and mirror, but this is actually just a frame and a piece of acrylic. The HUD is on the main screen. The effect of looking through the acrylic gives it the appropriate framing and it looks pretty much as it should, but without lots of extra hardware. It took about two hours to make. Its all part of the philosophy of getting it to work as simply as possible without getting bogged down in details or huge expense.
Cripple Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 I have to admit I'm cheating on the HUD.... Its all part of the philosophy of getting it to work as simply as possible without getting bogged down in details or huge expense. Spot on! You hit the nail on the head: simulation, not replication; immersion, not perfection. Nice wee 'pit you have there. Few projects to keep you going (as you say), but you can have fun flying whilst you do them. :) My *new* AV-8B sim-pit build thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3901589 The old Spitfire sim-pit build thread circa '16/17: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=143452

I can't see anyone's embedded YouTube videos working at the moment and there's no information why.
Mr_Burns Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Yeah linked worked - i didnt even see it on my iphone shitty little screen. Wow that looks awesome, lovely pit mate!! I cant believe you 3 x 55" but cant find 500 for some lilliputs ;-) So I dont recall your build thread?
Deadman Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 The youtube insertion system works it may be a problem with how you uploaded your video. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
xray20 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 I cant believe you 3 x 55" but cant find 500 for some lilliputs ;-) So I dont recall your build thread? Like I said on the YouTube intro, It was all from salvaged parts. The 55" NECs didn't cost me anything. They were scrapped from a job, as were the instrumentation screens (It helps if you work with screens for a living). As for the build thread, I did the bulk of the work over the Christmas 2014 break. By the time I got the technique sorted out I was doing two panels a day, so I didn't really have time to post anything. The whole thing from mark 1 (see my previous youtube video) to mark two took about 10 days of solid (my wife says obsessive) work I did photograph everything though. I could do a sort of post build thread if you are interested.
