Mike5560 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I have trouble being able to look directly up and or to the high 6 o'clock with TrackIR....especially in dogfights. Seeing aircraft is difficult as it is, and I often lose them when in a turning fight. Anyone have any tips? I have the hat clip. Does the track clip pro work a lot better? I'm considering it, only thing is I don't like wearing a headset all of the time.

There are a number of issues - for example ambient lighting that can interfere with the infrared sensor. I think you will have to play around with your settings more. Perhaps a more detailed description of why you can't look up. What are the symptoms you are experiencing? Without more information, it is hard to offer solutions. This is solveable - just gotta understand more of your settings.
PiedDroit Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 First of all check in-game, without trackIR, that you can actually see your 6 o'clock, some view settings may prevent you to do so (use num keys to look around). If you can check 6 without trackir, you may start TrackIR but not DCS. With your hat clip on, move your head around and check the camera output when your in-game head reaches 6 o'clock position (you can see the Raw/Game values in the trackir window as well as what the camera sees). What can happen is: 1. the ratio (rotation speed) is too low and you end up masking one of the three reflectors by turning your head too much. -> adjust rotation speed. 2. one reflector is going outside the camera FOV. -> change camera position 3. something else is seen by the camera and perturbates the tracking (glasses, sun reflection that becomes visible). -> adjust camera sensitivity -> dim or move external lights if possible
kingpinda Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I myself tried every setting to get the hat clip to work with my annoying reflecting glasses. Given up and using the pro clip instead.

IMHO, the Proclip (or some viable substitute) is a necessity with most any type of eyeglasses. In my case, it did not seem to matter what the light source was if it bounced off of my glasses. The Proclip eliminated the problem. I do agree with many, though, that the Proclip should be somewhat more difficult to break. :( ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! feefifofum Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) Hey, it depends on your individual lighting situation, obviously, but I wanted to weigh in as a standard Track Clip user. It definitely required some tweaking to the standard profile, but with a proper light filter threshold and sensitivity curve you should be able to get acceptable performance. I wear eyeglasses sometimes, and haven't noticed any particular change in responsiveness with or without them. I'm sitting about 3-4 feet from an LED TV when I fly. Status LED brightness 82 (not really relevant) Filter threshold 160 IR brightness 15 Processing mode Precision Attached is a .jpeg of my pitch axis. Hope this helps! Sporg Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I would clearly recommend using a DelanClip (better and more sturdy replacement for a Pro Clip). You get much better and precise response, and much less influence from light in the room or wearing glasses. I use a standard Smooth profile I got from my first installation of TrackIR, with a setting of Speed to 1.5, smooth to 10. Settings for Pitch and Yaw are the same, Roll is much less and flat around 2 and 3, Zoom is near same profile but elevated: This profile feels very smooth and close to natural for me. (No deadzone is on purpose: I do not like the feel of it and prefer the smooth transition.) Mike5560 Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 Thanks guys. It ended up that I needed more aggressive curves. It hadn't occurred to me that more aggressive curves would prevent the 2/3 reflectors merging together and confusing the sensor.
feefifofum Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 No problem, glad you got it sorted! I figured I'd already thrown enough $$ at those guys. ;) THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
FeistyLemur Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 More aggressive curves. I like aggressive curves too. In seriousness though, this video was the most useful 20 minutes I spent on learning about trackir.
