I am unable to request start up with the UH-1H (No problem with the F-86 Sabre on 262 UHF). I have read the radio manuals and am pretty confident. I have tried 133 MHz on VHF and 262 UHF. All switches in T/R and have read everything I can find on it, but I still can't raise the tower at Kobuleti.

Any Ideas?

1. At yellow circle:

  • Turn on the AN/ARC-134 VHF/AM Radio

  • Tune tower frequency

2. At red circle:

  • Turn the C1611/AIC Intercom Mode Selector to "3" (VHF/AM)

3. Push radio switch (trigger second stage in real huey) [RAlt + #]

Thats it.

Battery on?

Does it work with other airfields?

Of course and engine running. Haven't tried other airfields maybe that's next. I am able to contact tower with the f-86 using the same mission... using 262 UHF, I have tried that too...

Just noticed, UH-1 is not coming up as an option in the mission editor when I try to use the F-86 mission that I am able to contact tower 43180 is the version I have as well

You have to choose the "helicopters" icon to implement helicopters in the mission editor. Screen_150908_002437.jpg.f007329d7a82c1a5ace53f42c701511e.jpg

Sorry if I give you stupid tips you do certainly know. I can not imagine why it doesn´t work for you.

I know, it's weird because I'm usually pretty good at this. One thing I noticed is it ONLY allows UHF am in the mission planner. It says MHZ AM and if I try to pick a VHF, like 133 it will give me an error message saying invalid frequency. seems like something is quirky with the mission planner...

Your turning the radio select rotary to 2 Vhf broadcast, and set up radio switch as opposed to intercom switch in options when mapping keys ?

TO add to this, make sure you're tuning the right frequency dial. I was getting really confused a while back because I'd tuned the radio to the correct frequency (133Mhz), set the radio rotary to the correct position, etc. but wasn't getting a reply.

Eventually I realized that I'd tuned the radio direction finder rather than the VHF radio .

Make sure number 3 is selected on the sig distribution. Make sure VHF AM is on by squelch test. Make sure battery is on or ground power is on before all that. Lastly, make sure you mapped Copilot or pilot Radio trigger ICS trigger to different keys, make sure you hold down the respective key (radio trigger pilot or copilot) while transmitting.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

This looks promising. I will try this tonight... Wasn't aware you had to hold the key down. Thought that once you selected the menu you could just select the appropriate F Key...

SOLVED! This post got me on the right track. I always had VHF, BATT, #3 sig distribution etc. correct. What it turned out to be was I needed to map Pilot Radio trigger RADIO, not Pilot Radio trigger ICS. ICS is for intercom and RADIO is for radio. Once remapped it worked like a champ. Also, you do not have to hold it down once you get the radio menu options up.

Thanks ALL for your help...

Yes and sorry for misleading post I meant position 3 on rotary, and obviously Wild Bills explanation was more eloquent than mine:)
