joebloggs Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 I was just wondering if anyone is using Skylakes i7 6700k and what FPS you are getting with it. This is what I want to upgrade to, but only if I don't see an increase in FPS from what I currently get. I currently use a i7 930 overclocked to 4.1 Ghz and I get 130 FPS, but I use Oculus Rift, so more FPS the better. So what FPS are you getting if you are using Skylake i7 6700 and do you have it overclocked? Thanks!

Revelation Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 I have a 6700k, overclocked to 4.5GHz. See my sig below for details. I run DCS at 1440p, so my FPS may differ from yours if you are running at 1080p. I get 120 FPS on external view over Batumi with a single AC. I get 75-80 FPS inside the cockpit in the same mission. When I fly the campaigns for A-10C I typically get between 45-69 FPS. I have all settings maxed out, DoF and Lens Flare disabled. If I ran DCS at 1080p, my FPS would be higher - naturally. joebloggs Posted October 4, 2015 Author Posted October 4, 2015 What is your resolution? Everything maxed out in the settings? Always and everywhere 130fps? Fox Res 1920 x 1080. Everything maxed out apart from Civilian traffic off and Visibility set to high. Obviously my FPS would drop depending with ai infantry, but I test using free flight. Are you using Skylake? Because the thread was to try to find out about Skylakes i7 6700k.
Demon_ Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2752766/skylake-upgrade.html Most of the time, you have to overclock to obtain the best result. Choose the K model. The i5 6600K is less expensive. Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.

I'm seeing exactly the same framerate as you on 1440p with a FX-8350 @4,6ghz, so I'm pretty sure a mid range CPU is enough, and you won't see much more improvement from having a high end CPU. Clearly the GPU is more important in the new engine. Speaking of GPU's! The author of the topic never told us what GPU the CPU was going to be paired with, which makes it impossible to give a proper answer.
xaoslaad Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I7 6700K, dual 970's and 4k monitor getting ~70 FPS with just about everything maxed.
Corvus Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I7 6700K, dual 970's and 4k monitor getting ~70 FPS with just about everything maxed. Is it more or less stable 70fps? Thinking of similar setup, but it's rather expensive and I don't want to sell my kidney;) My YT channel https://www.youtube.com/user/corvuscorp81
T_A Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Also got the 6700K but honestly i doubt cpu means much in DCS 1.5 Getting around 120fps pretty constant with 1920*1200 max settins no dof/lens. Yes I have a Skylake CPU. i7-6700K. Not overclocked. My previous CPU was a i7-2600k oc @ 4.7GHz. There is only little difference in therms of performance in DCS between these cpus. And with DCSW 1.5 CPU performance became less important. As you have good fps already, I would not recommend upgrading only for DCS.
