IvanK Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 The Glare/reflection in the upper glass on the SU27 HUD at night is way to excessive regardless of HUD intensity.... unrealistic imo
Aluminum Donkey Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Huh? Your picture doesn't show... anything. IvanK Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 You dont see the lighter top half of the HUD ? Al Donkey ?
Bourrinopathe Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 There's a way to fix that reflection by modifying the HUD texture. It will be less cumbersome by night. Even the Ka-50 (DCS level simulation) is not perfect in that regard (it's the same HUD model). Unlike the Su-27 HUD, the Ka-50 HUD projector "reflection/halo" intensity is reduced with the display intensity level but the HUD 3D model lighting effect is still the same though. Most of the aircraft do not have any HUD "reflection" texture. /// ВКБ: GF Pro MkII+MCG Pro/GF MkII+SCG L/Black Mamba MkIII/Gladiator/T-Rudder MkII | X-55 Rhino throttle/Saitek Throttle Quadrant | OpenTrack+UTC /// ZULU +4 /// /// "THE T3ASE": i9 9900K | 64 GB DDR4 | RTX 2080ti OC | 2 TB NVMe SSDs, 1 TB SATA SSD, 12 TB HDDs | Gigabyte DESIGNARE mobo ///
OnlyforDCS Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 You dont see the lighter top half of the HUD ? Al Donkey ? This is not a bug. It looks like that because the glass hud is actually two panes of glass. set at an angle to each other. The light reflexion makes the top half lighter than the bottom half. It's that way in the real plane. Having Flown Dual glass equipped HUD aircraft (same basic design) at night I can tell you that you dont see it IRL.
OnlyforDCS Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I stand corrected then. Sent from my HTC One M8s using Tapatalk Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
OnlyforDCS Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Actually now that Ive looked at your picture little bit more I don't see it anymore. The "brightness" seems to be equal in both halves of the HUD. The contrast seems stronger in the bottom part, but that's probably because of the horizon. It appears to be somewhat of a brain mirage, my eyes (brain) got fooled but it's only the contrast between the dark earth and the relatively bright night sky. Can you take another screenshot where the background is uniform and doesn't show both the ground and the sky in the hud? Bushmanni Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 The background is almost completely black. If you watch very carefully (using color picker or color adjustment) the real horizon is bit lower than the "horizon" in the HUD. Bourrinopathe Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) Here's a different angle: It's all smoke and mirrors, obviously. Simulating reflections has always been a performance hog. I overheard DCS 10.0 will feature realtime reflections ;) Edited November 4, 2015 by Bourrinopathe /// ВКБ: GF Pro MkII+MCG Pro/GF MkII+SCG L/Black Mamba MkIII/Gladiator/T-Rudder MkII | X-55 Rhino throttle/Saitek Throttle Quadrant | OpenTrack+UTC /// ZULU +4 /// /// "THE T3ASE": i9 9900K | 64 GB DDR4 | RTX 2080ti OC | 2 TB NVMe SSDs, 1 TB SATA SSD, 12 TB HDDs | Gigabyte DESIGNARE mobo ///
OnlyforDCS Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Oh I thought the problem was the brightness of the display, but it appears to be the actual panes of glass of the HUD?
