KansasCS Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 This might have been addressed in the past but here goes anyways. The damage model in DCS for various aircraft is outdated, to put it mildly. The amount of bullet holes simply painted on the wing or any other part of the plane is too damn high compared to 3D modeled damage. A shredded wingtip, control surfaces and engine exhaust is nice and dandy, but the underlying black textures are mediocre at best. What we need is some true flak holes that reveal the aircrafts anatomy. Of course this is a petty complaint considering the fact that most engagements aren't in close quarters. Yet speaking from an a10 and ww2 airframe pilots perspective, it would be a refreshing change to see some major improvements in this matter. Below is an image of what I'm talking about. KansasCS Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It's merely a texture in the wing. Admitted, its way more performance effective, yet I can't help but think that it dampens the immersion a bit.
eyusuf Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 well there's also the issue of relativity Meaning that taking a few hits from a tanks cupola machine gun at 300 + m shouldn't damage an A10Cc Yet I have not only suffered severe engine and systems damage, but have also been shot down by such.

A plane is a plane and while the hawg is tough, it is far from invincible. Direct engine hits from behind into the exhaust ought to do some serious damage, no matter the calibre. Also, I'm not so sure that the machine guns are overpowered. After all, we are talking about ~50. cal. What is certain though is the fact that BMPs and tanks are friggin snipers. I'd imagine that a plane zooming at 250mph is a bit harder to hit without radar guidance seen on regular AAA tanks. But that is a different story.

Maybe there should be sticky list where all known things are listed like this damage model. So no more xx Numbers of threads of same things. -haukka81 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Oculus CV1, Odyssey, Pimax 5k+ (i5 8400, 24gb ddr4 3000mhz, 1080Ti OC ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

LBRB.Freitag Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Visual effects are secondary. The damage mode of systems, controls etc. is poor, extremely generic. Attention should be given to the operation of the systems, the damage they suffer and the consequences. Damage images are the easy part to create.
