Hi all, im just starting to get into the A10c. Wow, very steep learning curve, for sure. One of the many problems im having is seeing the Hud clearly. Ive used the Intensity? button but that doesn't help much. Is there a way of getting the display a bit sharper?

Many thanks in advance,

...Guy

What display resolution are you running the game at?

Since the HUD simbology is text render as texture it requires a high resolution of 1920x1080 minimum to be readable at a confortable distance

My rig specs:

Intel Core i7 4770 @3.4Ghz // Corsair 16GB DDR3 // MoBo Asus Z87K // HDD 1TB 7200RPM // eVGA Nvidia GTX 760GT 2GB DDR5 // LG 3D 47" 1920x1080 // Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS // Saitek Combat Pro Pedals // Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack // PS3 Eye + FTNOIR

Although you may not know how to do this yet, I have found that the only way to improve the HUD view is to change the time of day of the mission in the mission editor so it occurs either earlier in the morning or later in the evening. The difference in ambient lighting will provide much more contrast and the HUD will show much clearer against the background.

There's also I mod that makes the text bigger, But I gather you're not having problems with the size, but rather the brightness.

Are you using DCS World 1.5 Open beta?

If not, I'd recommend you do. It's a fairly simple process to update to the beta, and at least on my system everything works 100%, and I get double the frame rate with my old system. (ATI Radeon 5770, if you can believe it.)

The reason I ask is the new lighting engine might make a difference, and the performance is so much better in general. I just though if you're new to DCS you might not have made the switch.

Okay, so this is where I have to throw some information at you.

If you're going to use any mods, you should use JSGME, basically a mod manager.

Its a bit of a pain to get jsgme working, but if you follow the instructions here:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98607

it should work fine.

If you'd like to try the bigger text mod that's here:

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/374967/

Although to my knowledge that hasn't been tested in 1.5 Open Beta.

As far as making the HUD itself brighter, I'll have a look around and see if I can find anything for you.

I agree with this, upgrade to the beta (its a parallel install so you'll be able to run "vanilla" DCS if things get wonky!).

I've upgraded to a GTX 970 and a 4k display and its smooth flying on my end, particularly the HUD, I'm having zero issues reading the text now (no mods either)!

Just to confirm the HUD mod (makes text larger) is working fine with my 1.5 install.

Re the HUD brightness. This has been a minor pet peeve of mine. IMO the HUD does not brighten enough for bright ambient lighting conditions. IRL the Rockwell Collins HUD (HGS) I use at work brightens enough to be visible in bright light.

Under certain conditions (time, sun position and clouds) it becomes nearly impossible for me to read the HUD in the A-10C. Changing HUD intensity or switching to night mode doesn't help.

I run 1.5 in 1920x1080, HDR on.

During training with my squadmates I often find myself relying on the analog instruments in the cockpit exclusively because I simply cannot read the HUD.

In my monitor/system it has to do also with HDR, as when activated it makes reading the HUD more difficult. Visibility improves a lot when deactivated, at the cost of some less beauty.

That's clearly because of the HDR option. The other aircrafts have a more dark tinted HUD so the effect is not as bad as in the A-10C.

I had a related issue using a calculated HDR with Sweet FX where I could see really nothing on the A-10C HUD when flying with clouds or bright sky in the front.

Changing the color to a darker green helped me out.
