I'm not sure if it's my Trackir that is faulty, but I seem to spend more time setting this thing up then I do any other controller I've owned. Even when I think I have set it up correctly, I can guarantee on another day it will start acting all weird and start bouncing about while I'm trying to use switches or keep my head still. I've watched the you tube thing with Gerry, but still my Trackir bounces about more times then not. So is this just my Trackir doing this or does everyone's do it? I've owned this for 2 years and can honestly say I find it rubbish for the fact I keep having to mess about with it. I've now got the track clip pro and it's still no better then the hat clip.

I wish someone would bring something out that used tracking like the Oculus Rift DK2 does, because that is spot on when it comes to tracking where you look. No bouncing about and where you look it stays still.

Sounds like you have a light source interfering with it. Have you checked the 'camera view' to see what the camera is seeing?

Yep i think that may be the issue as well.. I fought withmine for the longest time and then I got up one day and noticed that the light in the other room was directly behind my head.. I shut the door to my home office and never had another issue...

Make sure that there are no light sources behind you..

Agreed on the light source interfering. I had a minor problem with that myself, and increased the light threshold to around 108 and that alleviated it for me.

In the TIR software, click on the camera tab, and try increasing the light threshold setting a little at a time and test in between.

With your TIR properly set, no you should not be having that issue. Also check your room for any light sources that might interfere with the camera.

I have found that one of the most important factors in setting up Track IR is the distance between the camera and the hat clip or pro clip. Although this has been debated before, I am convinced that optimal distance is about 15 to 18 inches and any distance greater than that will increase erratic and overly sensitive performance. I might also mention that with the pro clip it's very important to have it on the left side of the headset. I use the hat clip and with very little tweaking have a sense of total and reliable control under all circumstances.

Thanks for the replies, but this defiantly isn't a light source issue. I to thought it might be at first, but I've even gone as far as building shutters on my windows. My room can be in pitch darkness and it still does it. The funny thing is it only seems to do it in on direction. I have the camera set at an 90 degree angle and set the same in the camera software, but when I look left it goes erratic when I reach 90 degree. All the other directions are fine, it just seem the direction where the legs on the trackir are that gives me problems. This is the same direction it caused it to act erratic when using the hat clip, the direction of the Trackir legs.

@Blooze I have a track clip which connects on my right side only. Why do you say it is important to be on the left side? I think this one only clips onto the right side of my headset.

I had a pro clip but only after it broke did I realize that I had it on the wrong side which explained why it never did work as I had hoped. I now have gone back to the hat clip and have no problems. Although the guide (Attached) doesn't specify right or left side the illustrations seem to clearly indicate that it should be attached on the left side. This makes sense in that the pro clip has a slight curvature that if reversed could very easily cause issues that would also be made worse if the distance is too great IMO.

Like a lot of people I too had problems to begin with.

Have you set the display to "Camera view"? and tried moving your head around.

Once I did that I was able to vary camera positions and clip angles until I was satisfied it could see all angles clearly, until then I'd get an occasional dropout of from certain angles.

Once you get the thing working properly you'll wonder how you ever did without it.

I could not agree more with that. Once I got mine set to where there was no interference, and clean movement in all directions, along with a profile that I liked, I could not be happier. And would not fly a flight sim without it.

It is smooth as a baby's butt for me.

Blooze has hit the nail on the head, I've just switched everything to the left side and I think it's going to work. Never in a million years would I have thought this could cause it. It's not a proper track clip pro and they've made it to go on the right side. I've switched it to the left and it may need bending a bit, but I really think this is going to work now. Why on earth doesn't it work on both sides though?

Thanks all for your replies and thanks For getting this to work Blooze. I really wished I'd asked earlier instead putting up with this for 2 years. I've lost count of the times this has gone erratic just when I'm about to press fire LOL.

I've just set it up on the left side properly now and I have to say it works flawlessly. This should be a sticky somewhere because I didn't know it had to be on the left hand side. I have seen plenty of posts where people have ad difficulty with Trackir and this might be the reason why. Thanks again!

I don't know why, but it never occurred to me to try to put it on the right side. However, I do find it odd that the Track-IR documentation (PDF) does not have any mention of it, and I don't have a new track-clip to look at and can't recall what, if any, docs it came with.
