It's actually the 200th topic with noob in its name. I hope this is the right forum for this, because every question is meant in regards of multiplayer, the only game mode I'm playing atm.

Hi guys, noob here how is just enjoying the game atm. I play since October 1st and jumped into multiplayer mid october (can't leave it). So after some time, I have some questions that are not answered yet, so I would be really glad if some of you could take their time to answer me some of them. Most of them are about the SU27, because I think the plane is less intuitive to fly.

I. Overall:

1. What is the best way to improve my piloting skills (this is really important for me). I'm reading through a lot of stuff and try to train things (high yo yo, cobra etc...). I have the feeling that even if I would have 1000 hours in this simulator I would call myself still noob.

2. For improving is it better to focus on 1 aircraft?

3. I own A10c, FC3, and CA. I'm enjoying multiplayer the most, so any tips for my next DLC?

II. F15c:

1. Is there a reason to use trackmode over TWS (AMRAAM/AIM9 loadout)?

2. Any reason to use the sparrow when AMRAAMS are not limited?

3. Is there a situation where I have to actually trim this aircraft (it flies like nailed into the sky)?

III. SU27:

1. Is there a reason to use TWS?

2. Do I benefit from using the radar along with IRST (vertical scan or boresight)?

3. What FOV has IRST?

4. What does the expected radar distance do, and is it useful?

5. How much do I move the radar with the up and down keys?

6. Is there some optimal rocket shooting indicator like in the F15?

7. I've read that the thrust/weight ratio with 56% fuel is the same the eagle has (1.07), so is it a common strategy to burn fuel before arriving at the combat area?

8. Do really good players have the same situational awareness in a flanker like in an eagle?

9. Is ECM a common loadout?

10. Is there a reason to not have permanently fly by wire deactivatet? You have less trim issues.

So, I think thats it for now.

EDIT: Added III. 10.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. I use tacview after nearly every mp session. It's really a helpful tool. I use it additionally for spectating good players and try to understand their decision making (it's not always easy, because you don't always know what their system is telling them).

Thanks for the reply. Hard to make up my mind, if I should choose the eagle or the flanker.

Hey, welcome to the community!

I:

1. The best way is to practice flying. Eventually you'll get better the longer you do it ;P

2. At the beginning yes, later on it doesn't really matter.

3 Get what you enjoy^^ I'm really looking forward to the F-14 for example.

II:

1. Yes, there is. In STT (that's you meant I guess) you have radar memory. That means if your radar loses track for whatever reason it will continue to "guess" the position of the target for another 4 seconds or so. That also means the m-link (the way your amraam is guided mid-course) will continue to be transmitted, that means you are effectively guiding your amraam for another 4 seconds (not AIM-7 and actually TWS should have radar memory as well but that's something else).

2. No, most of the times when using radar along with IRST during one of the WVR modes it will perform worse.

3. Tough one, I think +-75 left-right-up and 10 down (because of the nose).

4. I never set the expected distance but if you do it will decrease/increase the amount that the antenna is shifted up-downwards when selecting expected target altitude. I'm always flying with that on 10, it really doesn't matter.

5. Let me give you an example: If you set your expected target range to 50 and dial in +3 on the expected target altitude it will shift the antenna to a point 50km in front and 3000m above you. I hope you understand^^

6. Yes, when locking a target in either EO or radar you'll get the DLZ (dynamic launch zone) on the left vertical line of the HUD. From top to bottom the blocks mean: Maximum launch range (hit only when conditions at launch stay the same), No escape zone (even if target turn 180 the missile will be able to catch it, minimum engagement zone (missiles fuse won’t arm).

7. I don't know^^ I never did that, I like to keep some fuel for my return to base ;P

8. No, they can come close but if you have two players with the same skill level the one in the eagle will always have better SA. That's because of the radar and the RWR mainly.

9. Depends, when there are a lot of fighters in the air you can take them with you. When only a few are airborne you'll make yourself and easy target because everyone can see you.

10. Lol, you don't depart when trying to to BFM. But sometimes I use as a last ditch defense against an incoming amraam.

I hope that could help you :)

Hi RC6 thanks a lot, that was really helpful. You changed my numeration, but ok, its clear what you are answering to.

Just a quick followup.

I. 3. The F14 was my favourite aircraft in my youth, but I guess mostly because of the wings, carrier and phoenix.

II. 5. What is the reason than for using another expected target range? At 10km you scan ~1.7km vertical, so you cannot jump over something by moving only 1 km.

II. 6. I was talking more about the ASE.

II. 8. The question is more, if the advantage becomes negligible. But I guess the answer is, it depends.

II. 10. Hm, I will do some further testing. My problem is, that if I use the switch during the flight I'm busy for a moment with my trim and this is distracting. BTW, I'm a noob, I've had to google BFM ;)

Thanks again, really helpful.

Sorry, I must have gotten confused with the numbers there^^

I. 3. It's an iconic plane, set many standards.

II. 5. To be honest there is no one really. Only thing where I could image that to be helpful would be at ranges exceeding 200km but you're not going to reach that far out anyways against a fighter sized target.

II. 6. Oh, okay. In that case, nope, the flanker has nothing like that. Well actually kind of on the HDD (the MFD screen), but it's not the same and you have to look down to see it.

II. 8. Well, the eagle is always going to see more emitters on the RWR and be able to identify them. Same with the radar, that is just how the two planes are. But that's the fun for me, to be able to defeat the enemy with an "inferior" plane.

II.10. "busy for a moment" If I touch that switch with any trim applied I mostly nose-dive, get g-loced, enter a flat spin and my engine die. But I guess you could call that busy for a moment ;)

II. 5. AWACS, GCI or other calls. Also fine tune last known contact.

II. 6. Target aspect and own antenna position dot are shown on the HUD.

II. 8. EOS can give you info on cold targets which a radar can't see. Also in a heavy jamming environment rwr strength indication can be very effective. While SA is easier to come by in the F-15 the Flanker has some tricks up its sleeve.
