I used to have the problem you have occuring.

That pagefile size is waaay to large, and useless.

Keep it to 1.5 -2 x your ram. No higher.

Also is the pagefile on the same windows partition, or another partition?

Since I upgraded to 2x36GB WD Raptors spinning at 10000rpm :p

Ive never seen any pauses yet.

My strong belief is a HDD problem accessing the virtual ram.

Dredd have 2048 MB of RAM so 4092 should be fine. I'm going to try what Weta43 said and have task manager open on my 2nd monitor.

Weat43, it happens at any altitude not just near the ground. And it happens at all different times. I need a another HD anyway so I might just buy 1, 80 GB is not enough. I can use this one for my game, pic/music/ whatever drive. Time to go search newegg...

It's not the HDD, trust me...

I have a 150GB 10k Raptor (definitelly faster than those 36gig ones, and it still freezes for me now and then)

trust you? single drive, or dual in RAID0?

Ive had this problem before, and it was crazy. Was real annoying when you 'freeze' when weaving through the mountains, and during that freeze your saying to yourself 'please unfreeze before I crash, repeat, repeat'.

I then had a Nvidia 5900XT, IDE 80Gb WD, 1024GB DDR400 DualChannel.

Now I have similar specs to Cali.

Try changing your pagefile to 1536min, 1536max. Reboot, defrag, and see what happens.

I have mine currently 2046min, 4092max, with Corsair TwinX 2GIG DDR500.

How much free space you have on the Lockon drive/partition?

I have about 19GB free space on my lock on drive. I'll try the 1536 and see if that does anything, I currently have both set to 4092.

Weta43, it happens no matter where I'm at, not just the mountains.

Hmm 23% free space.

Make sure you change that pagefile! Min at 4096 is too high! Try my settings.

What packet size do you guys have? Mine was 1000, I changed it to 400. It's located here C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Config in the internet.cfg

Cali,

When's the last time you defragged your HD. I know you mentioned it was new...but how new is new? My computer is over a year old and I still sometimes refer to it as my new computer. :) That's me, of course.

Anyway, back to the point. I get occasional pauses when my HD starts to get badly fragmented.

About 2-3 weeks ago, I'll do it again tonight. Changing my packet size from 1000 to 400 help a lot, but it still does it, not as bad though.

Thanks Dredd, d/ling now, I just defragged last night I'm going to hop in a game later and see if that helped. If not I'll try DKL...

Having a large Pagefile does not cause performance degradation - in fact, there's no harm in having a huge pagefile. Having a fragmented pagefile does cause issues.

Re: pagefile sizing, refer to the following technet article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555223/en-us

specifically this part:

"A frequently asked question is how big should I make the pagefile? There is no single answer to this question, because it depends on the amount of installed RAM and how much virtual memory that workload requires. If there is no other information available, the normal recommendation of 1.5 times the amount of RAM in the computer is a good place to start. On server systems, a common objective is to have enough RAM so that there is never a shortage and the pagefile is essentially, not used. On these systems, having a really large pagefile may serve no useful purpose. On the other hand, disk space is usually plentiful, so having a large pagefile (e.g. 1.5 times the installed RAM) does not cause a problem and eliminates the need to fuss over how large to make it."

This article applies to all NT based OS'es - including XP Pro.

For some weird reason.....it just went away. I went to california for a few days and came back and now everything is fine. The wife was home by herself for 2 days then flew out to cali as well. Hmmmm I wonder what she did to the computer.

regedit

Find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\SessionManager\Memory Management

1. Find the dword DisablePagingExecutive, double click it and set the value to 1 decimal - this allows Windows to keep data in memory instead of paging to harddrive.

2. Find the dword LargeSystemCache, double click it and set the value to 1 decimal - this allows Windows kernel to run in memory - improves system performance a lot.

.... tried to do the above operation....it lets me change the number value but won't keep the decimal value selection....keeps changing back to hexidecimal.....

Stuttering and Freezing FTW!!!

I just wrote this huge post with all this great info and then accidently clicked on my back webpage button and lost it. haha thats comedy. Anyway my fianc'e just bought me the Lock On Gold game about a week ago cause I was getting bored waiting for WoW xpack. I have always enjoyed flying games but never played anything so realistic like this sim. My problem with the game is this. In any mode where I am actually in the game such as campaign mode or training my game will freeze up every few seconds for 2 or 3 second intervals. Within 10min the game will eventually freeze for good. I have done my research and I believe I have read everything I could find on stuttering and freezing. So this is everything I have done in respone. I reinstalled the game in the order described by another poster. Lock on 1.0 original, then i installed FC, then the 1.12a patch. Still same problem. I reinstalled my graphics card which is trully dumb cause its not like this game is gonna push my hardware. I mean the buildings look like they where made from old country farmers with a can of nails and a couple 2x4's to spare, lol even with the graphics on high. haha im just kidding its not to bad, was only picking on the folks that are hard core. Anyway, I really don't believe I have that problem where I need to replace my 2nd disk because it doesnt freeze on load up or that protection software checky thingy. I am currently trying the defrag thing even though I just built my PC a couple months back. For a game I have never played or even grown any attraction to I have now became a mess just because I have one of those never stop until everything is flawless attitudes. For some reason I think this problem could be a conflict with some other software I have installed. I hope it doesnt come down to listing all of the software on my computer. Anyway here you go for grins.

Windows XP Pro 32bit ver.

Service Pack 2

AMD 3800+ Dual Core (barton)

Asus Crossfire Mobo

Radeon x1900xtx 512mb

Patriot Dual Channel 1gig 2-2-2-5

2 Hard drives. 80g and 250g sata both Western Digital

PS. I did read one thing that made since but Im unsure how true it is or if its even a problem. I read somewhere that the game was not meant to work on 64bit. Being that i have a 64bit x2 processor this could have something to do with the stuttering. Im still running the 32bit windows xp pro software though so its not like im actually getting the worth of the dual core that I payed for. I plan on upgrading to Vista when Im not so lazy. Anyway in the same post it said something about disabeling the 64b. Not sure if thats possible but if it is how do you do it and is there a chance it will help?

Thanks in advance for any help. Much love, Seipher.

Look for a program called procaff, and do a search on the forums for procaff, and you should find it.

In the mean time, with lockon running, you can go to the task manager, and then the processes tab, look for lockon in there, right click and go to affinity....... only choose 1.

There is a load balancing problem where it switches from 1 core to the other.

I hope that fixes it for ya.

Alright i have done some more reading. I tried the procaff thing and set my game to /run 1. No dice still. I also went to the AMD website and got the dual core optimizer udate. Still, no dice. I am starting to think its just not going to run on my rig. If i don't figure it out soon im gonna have to toss it or shoot something really expensive!!!

Posted

Yeah I wouldnt give up on it, your system is more than able to run it.

Also try killing everything you can in task manager, to make sure its not some software on it.

This game is CPU intensive, so anything that is taking CPU cycles will hurt you.

Look for the error.log also, and maybe post it. It might have something to show in there.

my screen-freeze problem----still!

still digging around trying to solve this thing-------found some error logs, deleted them and ran the game again.....here's what they said:

Command Line :

ActionProcessor::Reinitialize

.....and the "Error.log" ---->

....what does this mean?....will this put me any closer to being able to fly again?
