JG27_Arklight Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Off the wall question here... How do I add more shine effects to the >EXTERNAL< cockpit glass of the Mig-21? Love the model, but the glass is missing that cool DCS 1.5/2.0 shine to it that many of the other aircraft have when you pan around from the outside. It almost looks like the pilot is sitting outside. Is it a texture/alpha channel thing or a model thing? Any way to add it if it is inherent to the model? I heard before you all were working on a 2.0 version of the Mig-21 but I'm not sure if there is any validity to that (since I haven't seen really any talk of it). Thanks for your time! -Rudel- Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 The introduction of 1.5.0 brought in the new 3D model. There is a specular file named MiG21Bis_Glass_Spec in the MiG-21Bis_Base.zip file. Increase its RGB Blue channel to get more of ED's effect. https://magnitude-3.com/ https://www.facebook.com/magnitude3llc https://www.youtube.com/@magnitude_3 i9 13900K, 128GB RAM, RTX 4090, Win10Pro, 2 x 2TB SSD, 1 x 15TB SSD U.2 i9 10980XE, 128GB RAM, RTX 3090Ti, Win10 Pro, 2 x 256GB SSD, 4 x 512GB SSD RAID 0, 6 x 4TB HDD RAID 6, 9361-8i RAID Controller i7 4960X, 64GB RAM, GTX Titan X Black, Win10 Pro, 512GB PCIe SSD, 2 x 256GB SSD
flanker1 Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 in my opinion the mig-21 has the most realistic looking glas effect since dcs 1.5 - the stock ed ones looks a little overdone to me. . . so, leatherneck - please keep the present look of the mig glas untouched. :-)

Nvm, found it! *EDIT* Once I have altered the file, where do I put it? :/ Thanks, much, Rudel! JG27_Arklight Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 Right back where you found it :D Haha, a few questions... 1. When changing the channel, do I simply add a darker grey layer to the B channel, or am I modifying the Alpha channel? I am so used to FS9/FSX where the Alpha channel controls the reflective properties. lol 2. When re-applying the finished texture, so I just drop it in the unzipped MiG-21Bis_Base folder, or do I have to re-zip it up and delete the original? Thanks for the help! :) Ark ------------------ Windows 10 Pro x64 9900K @ 5ghz Gigabyte Aorus Master Z390 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB CAS 14 EVGA RTX 2080 Ti Ultra XC2 256gb Samsung 869 Pro (Boot Drive) 1TB - Samsung 970 EVO Plus Seasoninc 1000w Titanium Ultra PSU 34" ASUS PG348

No need to re-zip the entire folder. The name must be identical. I guess that is my question/s.. To alter the channels, does one just use a grey shade lighter/darker to change the values of each channel, or is there a different way of doing it? Changing alpha channels was always simple. lol Regarding dropping in the file.... I will still have the original Zip file in the folder as well as the newly unzipped file. If I am replacing a file in the unzipped folder, won't the game just read the original zipped file (or is that not how it works in DCS)? Regards, You should only have the zipped file in your texture folder. You shouldn't have multiple .zip files. Replace the texture in the zip file with your new one. Just lighten/darken the channel using any method to increase/decrease the assocaited effect. Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/

I can't paste a .DDS file into a zip file. Am I supposed to extract the Mig_21_base.zip, alter the file and replace it, then re-zip the file? I can't seem to just replace the file in the zip without extracting the zip file first. :/ Ark ------------------ Windows 10 Pro x64 9900K @ 5ghz Gigabyte Aorus Master Z390 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB CAS 14 EVGA RTX 2080 Ti Ultra XC2 256gb Samsung 869 Pro (Boot Drive) 1TB - Samsung 970 EVO Plus Seasoninc 1000w Titanium Ultra PSU 34" ASUS PG348

Just drag and drop and it will replace the file. Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
