Okay, so something just happened, and I'm getting a bit worried and need some advice. I had never played on a multiplayer server in DCS before, so I logged on to the 104th Phoenix (I had heard this is a really good one) just to look around and see what the multiplayer interface was like and how it worked. While messing around with the interface, I ended up on a screen with a list of players and a 'Kick' button at the top (not going to tell how I got there, just in case this ends up being a security flaw, as you'll see in a second). I thought to myself, "Surely I can't just go and kick any player I want from here" so I (rather stupidly) decided to try it. I selected a random player from the list and clicked 'Kick'. A box popped up asking for 'Reason for Kick', but I left it blank and hit the arrow. I was expecting a message saying something like "You do not have permission to Kick", but nothing of the sort came up. The player didn't disappear from the list, so me being an idiot, decided to try again with another player to confirm that I indeed didn't have the power to kick anyone. Same thing happened, 'Reason for kick', hit arrow, nothing happened. Okay, all's well and good. So I left the server, went and did other things, then decided to log back on the 104th Phoenix to check something else out. But uh-oh, what's this? It no longer appears on the list of servers. Then I start thinking, "Oh crap, what if I actually kicked those two people, and now I've been banned?" I did really want to fly on that server once I refreshed my skills with the Su-25T, and now I'm worried I won't be able to. If I did really kick those players and get banned, I'm thinking I should contact the 104th, let them know what happened, apologize, and see if they'll remove my ban. I should probably also find a way to contact Eagle Dynamics privately to let them know about the bug. What do you guys think? Should I be worried, or am I just crazy and there is no way this could actually happen?

TL;DR: Might have just inadvertently kicked two players using a security bug and gotten myself banned from the 104th Phoenix.

104th's server doesnt always show up in the browser, i dont have the IP off hand, but generally if you cant see it, hop on their TS and get the server IP there and try to join via IP. If that doesnt work, the server is probably down.

Even if you were banned, that would not keep the server from showing up in the browser.

No you did not kick anyone ;).

As said before 104th server does not show up most of the time in the list. I don't think they want us to post the ip here because of attacks on their server. I can send you a private message though. Because while their ip should be mentioned on their teamspeak channel as it did for me in the past, I can't seem to find it in the TS anymore.

Like the rest of them say, its a fun little bug that doesn't work (thankfully).

That said, if you were banned from 104th...they're very nice people about stuff like that, even when its super obvious bad behavior.

To my mind, that approach was a little daft. What if it did work? Potentially you could have ended a flight for two pilots who might have been flying in that mission for several hours.

Hardly the approach of someone who wants to continue flying on a given server. Just as well it wasn't functioning isn't it.

I disagree... the potential of such a big security flaw vs one person being inconvenienced makes the choice obvious, he did the right thing.

Just think if he hadn't tried and this flaw went through? There are less honest people out there that would exploit this.

So if you saw a bridge with a bit of fence missing, you'd have to leap off it to show there was a problem?

The correct approach would be to have highlighted the issue without trying to kick anyone by simply asking a question.

If he'd been capable of kicking a player, and that player was you, would you have welcomed him to join your group? However, if he'd contacted you and said did you know...

Frankly, the internet allows us all to hide and behave utterly repugnantly. It isn't acceptable to disrespect other people, and all our actions have consequences. Some people are very quick to forget that!

I don't want to turn this into an argument and derail the thread. Your analogy doesn't make sense at all, it doesn't fit this discussion.

His testing verified that there is not an issue. Had there been an issue he would have uncovered a very serious bug.

Remember, this is a BETA, stuff is supposed to be tested.

Although he was honest about his approach, which should be commended, his approach was terribly flawed. It's a little alarming that you can't see that.

The analogy was fine, too.

Thank you all for your awesome responses! This community is truely amazing! I guess I just freaked out when I saw that I couldn't access the server anymore (I can now, guess it just wasn't appearing on the server list for a bit). It seems I would be the guy to hit the red button; the curiosity that overcame me when I thought I found a new bug overrode the logical part of my brain telling me not to mess with it (in case you haven't figured out yet, I like finding bugs:D). And don't worry, the people I tried to kick were in spectator mode, although I appreciate your concern for other players. I'll try to be more careful and less foolhardy next time!:smartass: Thanks again!
