[RESOLVED]Cannot start the game after recent 1.5.1 update

When I start up the game - i see the initial DCS splash screen and then after that black. after some time I do hear a background music - but not the one that I normally get - but only black screen.

 

I'm pretty sure I ran the game at least once after the update just fine.

 

I haven't made any changes to the computer or configuration.

I did rename the saved/openbeta folder to force a recreation - but same problem.

my logs folder has just the one dcs.log file - in original post.

 

the program hasn't crashed - it's running with a black screen and an unfamiliar music. i have to use taskmanager to terminate.

 

i started up DCS 1.0 - and that works fine.

They both appear to do the exact same thing when I try to run it but I've been trying to run it using the green icon.

 

Just out of curiosity though, I thought ED had stated they were going to do a server only executable for 1.5 or was that in 2.0 only?

Have you made sure c++ is up to date

I thought that was supposed to be included with the install package. Anyhow, it didn't fix the problem. It looks like it's a DX11 issue related to shaders. I'm including the new log along with the .crash file.

I had the same issue with the 359 drivers, screen would go black. Accidentally found out that if I turned my monitor off, then back on, the display would be fine. Was happening with BOS also. I had used DDU to do a clean install of the 359 driver. Used DDU again to install the last 358 driver and everything was fine. I then just did an Nvidia clean install of the 359 driver and all is fine again...for now. It was really a strange occurrence to say the least, it only affected DCS and BOS, I don't currently run any other simulators/games.

thanks for the suggestion and I can understand why since my listed spec's are for Nividia but our squad server is running AMD video. All of the 3D is turned off though.

My problem is fixed.

 

I think I was using the wrong icon - also did a Windows 7 system update.

 

Back to normal.

OK, I understand what's happening now. It's not that the computer has DX11 it's that the 4300 is only capable of running DX10.1. So it looks like I'll have to get a new video card and upgrade it. Thanks for looking at the thread.

It's working now. I had an extra DX11 capable video card. I swapped it out this morning and it's working perfect. We'll do some testing for connection with our squad members this weekend. Thank you for your help.

 

By the way, I was a little concerned that it wouldn't run on the older quad core processor but it runs absolutely fine. I do think that there's some optimizing that needs to be done though because I'm still getting a little stuttering but it's much better now.
