Guest Cali Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Couple that with the fact that US will never go against an enemy that has such resources Is that our fault :music_whistling:
Guest Cali Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Is that a question?...I think we need a poll:unsure: Start one
NEODARK Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I have a few items for sale, anyone on this thread interested? Get back to shooting some bogeys guys ;)
nscode Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 People, let's stop this and return to our very nice tehnical discussion. I was only trying to chear things up a bit and not offtopic since my point was to show that anyone can be thought something if there is a will and need for that. A buddy of mine drinks beer with the guys in the picture and they are realy nice and funny, not just looking that way ;). I'll ask him to ask them (if they are still in Belgrade) if they feel affended by my comments and if they do, I'll remove it and apologize to them. If someone here is their relative and feals offended, speak up and I'll remove it and apologize to that person too. But these "comments" and flame wars are, just as Crusty sayed, pointless. Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
NEODARK Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 A buddy of mine drinks bear with the guys in the picture Like this? I think you meant "beer" :megalol:
Crusty Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Start one I tried and cant work it out..wanna go for it?:D:pilotfly: oo err...missus:animals_bunny: ** Anti-Pastie**
nscode Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Yes... just like that :D to drink bear = to drink vodka (yes, I did make that up right now :)) and ough.... you've stoped already. Darn :D Takes me too long to post if i'm learning physics at the same time... damn you Van der Waals :D Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
tflash Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Please can we go back to the interesting thread as it was before #97? It was just a joke that went wrong. Now back to business. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pilotasso Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Germany 1 Argentina 1...was I successfull? :D man!!! and is the end of the extra time. :D SOmething has got to give! If my team survives the game tomorrow I want argentina out. :D .
4c Hajduk Veljko Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 What the hell is wrong with the Serbs on this board? Always trying to get a dig in on the Americans.I demand apology from you for such untrue and unjust statement! If there is a particular individual on this board that has a “dig with Americans”, please use his name when addressing your issues with him. This board is supposed to be for people who love flight sims and Lock On in particular. So why did you mention SERBIAN armor on an F-22 thread? Frankly, I don't give a crap about your anger or distaste for the American military. This is yet another very vicious statement and I do demand apology for it as well! There is no anger or distaste towards American military on my side. And I am a proud Serbian. Maybe you should post bullshit comments like that elsewhere. Neg rep inbound. No comments here. Argentina was the strongest team of all. Maybe now the rest will stop making 50 handballs(have been plaguing the chanpionship) trying to succsessfuly immitate Maradonas hand of God ROFL. .

Guest Cali Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 =4c= Hajduk Veljko, Normally when people demand things they dont get it. I understand your upset but please talk about what this thread is about. And that goes to everyone else, can't we just all get along?
ivan_v4 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Sorry Cali,(for the OT world cup comment). I have a question concerning to IRST, if a BVR IRST is implemented anytime, how it can tell what's a friend or foe?

I understand your upset but please talk about what this thread is about. And that goes to everyone else, can't we just all get along?Cali, Ruggbut is using this forum to publicly spread propaganda and lies about Serbs hate towards America. I can not sit and just watch such lies because my kids are Serbs and I am a Serb and we live in the USA and I don’t want people to think that me and my kids hate America! I do not hate America! America is my country and I would give my life for my country of America! I would not sit still and let Ruggbut spread propaganda and lies about me and my native nation of Serbia. If I, or you for that matter, do not challenge and respond to people like Ruggbut, then we all loose. It was Ruggbut who started this and he needs to apologize for it, promise that he will behave in the future and we all can go back and discuss F-22. PS This was my last comment on this thread. Pilotasso Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 In my opinion the Germans just had held an impassable defense, because the argies were superior throught the game IMHO but the germans kept their heads cool during the penalties. I bet this was their intention halfway through the second half. I knew the germans nerves of steel would prevail in the penalties. They are cold and calculist. They are going to meet their match in a boring defending game next round though (italy :D ) .
Guest IguanaKing Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Iguana....I understand your point abouthigh power rf circuits, but I believe the internet has created a quite a few people skilled in fibre optics if a bloomin bt engineer can produce a splice in the field it cant be that "magical" now can it? True...but how are you going to get large enough numbers of those guys to take a pay cut by joining the military? ;) Maybe the USAF could offer a special commission to fiber optics guys, just like they do for other high skill professions.
Guest IguanaKing Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 That is a common thing for any tranciver device, only with freq the tolerance gets smaller. And if you can train this bunch: to maintain an F-16.... you can train just about anyone to do just about anything  LOL. Those guys are line techs though, they don't do much beyond box swapping...they don't actually open them up. :D
Pilotasso Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 C'MON! You say you wanna end the bickering but you guys actualy perpetuating it. What about germany? :) .
tflash Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Gg and others, I do not really understand the "long distance IR problem". Current Flirs like Litening 2 or Sniper are already imaging targets from respectable distance, no? I mean, not 16 kilometers of course but certainly BVR, say 15 miles? I think the real problem is scanning: using IR to scan BVR seems inappropriate and not really done. t's easier to scan with radar, and once tracked, to slave the IRST or Flir systems on it. This is also, what I believe, how the Pirate Irst will work on Typhoon. its is not meant to counter stealth but was conceived to enable "visual id" from "Beyond visual" range, like the Tomcat's TCS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 You're right ... these pods can *image* targets from afar. The problem is that the computer must then decide when it has detected a target. Believe it or not, aircraft are pretty cool when seen from afar. IIR -will- increase range over present IR systems, but using it for BVR head-on is pretty silly. The frequencies you want to detect head-on get attenuated quite rapidly, and while the solutions to mitigate this offered by various people here -are- realistic, they are -not- practical, at least not now, and not in the forseeable future. Right now, my computer can do motions detection (or whatever detection I want) on an image that's about the same resolution as most of the IIR FPA's offered today. It takes time - it may be faster to do in hardware, but I doubt you'll want to do that as it is too inflexible. It takes enough time that you'd have scanned a full sized radar area two or three times by the time you're able to get a 'hit', and that's with easily identifiable targets. From there on, you also need to reject stars, things on the ground, and so on and so forth - that means that you'll have to nag the poor pilot to check loads and loads of hits in most cases. How do we get around this with existing IRSTs? You use a threshold. Ah but ... that means you cut your range down. There -are- other tricks you could use, but they're easily fallible too. Tflash is probably most right - it'll be a sensor cued from the radar, or use WVR -or- potentially cued from radar data link, but the datalink again ... you are trying to detect a STEALTH aircraft with a radar, and if you -are- detecting it, it isn't very stealth ... GGTharos Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 You can get a 20% gain using CCD's last I checked ... to give you an idea of how far these things can see, someone here mentioned they shot a maverick at a target sitting 12nm away in real life. Once you -see- the target it's one thing ... playing the detection game with an IIR device however is best left to a human at this point, as you'll likely run into a boatload of false positives with a computer. In essence, a radar picture is much cleaner when it comes to searching ... and even there, for example, both the flanker and fulcrum's radars were actually considered pretty poor in search capability compared to the F-15's and F-14's radar, specifically because they didn't have the processing power to adequately deal with rejecting false positives. IIR takes a -lot- more computing power than that as your dataset is positively huge compared to what you get from a radar pulse, and probably doesn't get as much 'hardware cleanup' as a radar pulse does (ie, we're not looking at realtime or near realtime processing) But: This is speculation on my part. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
TucksonSonny Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 What kinds of distances are possible now and what are projected for IIR? For Pirate that is 80nm….
