Hey,

my specs are:

i5 2500K

8 GB RAM 1333

GT 560Ti 1 GB Zotac

I am going to upgrade GPU and RAM but I do this in parts.

Where does DCS keep textures? I mean when we select Terrain textures on High settings, where do they go?

To VRAM or RAM?

I am going to add next 8 GB RAM and wonder if it would help minimize shutters, texture loading. If they're kept in RAM it will help but if in memory on GPU it will not bring any help cause my GPU memory is just 1 GB.

Is it possible to add (partially) DCS into RAM memory for the time of being?

16 GB would be great for this.

I mean some heavy files in RAMdisk or something like this.

I am trying to find the best way to utilize 16 GB of memory ;)

Thx, today I had 6.5 GB of RAM usage (with textures and most settings on low). Even system was a bit unusable for a time after killing process.

It means either I want it or not the first thing must be the RAM memory.

Then gonna add new GPU, 4 GB I think.

Hi!

Don't fall for 'oooh, get a 8GB graphics card!'.

Contact a friend with a 4GB card and ask him to measure the vram usage using msi afterburner on high settings. There. Definite answer.

I use a 2GB GF 660 Ti and I get 100+ FPS on high settings, 8x AA, 1080p. I'm going to check vram usage on my system today.

PS. I only use DCS 1.5.

I have a GTX 670 with 2 GB VRAM, often around 50-70 fps on very high settings, 1200x1920.

(Lower fps near the ground, higher fps at high altitude.)

I was surprised to see that DCS (1.5) claims it is using 5.7 GB of VRAM ingame..

I have 8 GB RAM in my PC at the moment.

System specs:

Gigabyte Aorus Master, i7 9700K@std, GTX 1080TI OC, 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM, NVMe M.2 SSD, Oculus Quest VR (2x1600x1440)

Warthog HOTAS w/150mm extension, Slaw pedals, Gametrix Jetseat, TrackIR for monitor use

Does the game have a memory link problem?

DCS Nevada uses a *lot* of memory with all graphics settings set to high!

I have a GTX 1070 8GB card, and flying around Nevada (including Vegas) for a while has used about 7.6GB of it--and that's in addition to another 12 out of my 16GB system RAM!

Visual assets (models & textures) normally load into VRAM first, how much of it depends on your preload distance setting. This sim can use an unbelievable amount of system resources--it's easily the single most demanding game out there, bar none.

Since there's nothing else quite like it, we'll forgive it for that :)

Peace and happy warfare

Good missions easily go beyond 12gb on my rig. Any flight on BF is a 12GB Flight, VRAM maxed out ( need 512gb vram maybe ?? ). Haha

Yeah, my PC can at times eat up my RAM like nothing, I am glad I got the 16G when I did, if you are upgrading you might as well. As for the Gfx card, it depends on what games you play and what resolution you plan on using. At 1080p my 4g vram GTX970 has no problem on DCS and most other games on High, but starts too show with higher resolutions and ultra textures.

Im not sure this is all intended. I suspect there is more than one memory leak in the Alpha. People are all gushing about how much of a resource hog DCS Nevada is. Sorry to break it to you, but thats not a good thing.

I've noticed this even in 1.5.6. I run my system without a swap file. It works perfectly (16GB Ram) however DCS has problems with it. I have to restart DCS after each mission. If I don't I risk a CTD.

This is not working as intended. These are memory leaks.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

In 1.5.4.recent I have no memory leak. The RAM fills up to a certain amount and just sits there.

If there was a leak it would slowly grab more and more until you come to a HALT.

Nevada I dont fly that long to really say there is no leak, but to me it doesnt seem to have one.
