tovivan Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I hope this isn't seen as a "which oil/tires" type of thread, but which middle-range IR missiles are best/most reliable right now? R3S or the R13?
mia389 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I always use the R3S but I have never hit anything with it :megalol: I always play MP and if I try to fight, I die before I see anything
Kev2go Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) I always use the R3S but I have never hit anything with it :megalol: I always play MP and if I try to fight, I die before I see anything to rank missiles in terms of capabilties and time of service? Most of these missiles are Rear Aspect only. R3S- a first generation missile. It is just a reverse engineered Gar8/Aim9b R3R - Semi active guided missile, but not BVR, similar range to Heatseakers. R13M - comparable to Aim9J. A more manuverable missile, and can actually be relied on unlike the first generation class of the R3. R13M1 - slight improvement R60 - smaller but much more manoeuvrable missile over the r13.. Still a rear aspect missile only. R60M- Modernized R60. has limited "all aspect". meaning it has a higher degree of angles it can lock onto, but it still cannot lock onto aircraft head on like actual full aspect missiles. Comparable to the Aim9P Even the most modern missile the r60m is still limited aspect missile. still inferior to the all aspect R73 & aim9m heatseakers. Pesonally i just use the best available tech, excpet maybe when wanting a challenge and trying to fight a sabre or mig15. A sort of reverse Vietnam scenario where the Mig21 is like the phantom and the F86 in the place of the mig17. tovivan Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 to rank missiles in terms of capabilties and time of service? ... snipped Thanks, that was exactly what I wanted to know!
Hadwell Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) R60M is better than the R-13M1 at ~4KM R-13M1 is better than the R60M at ~7KM... R3R is the only useful front aspect missile... best loadout is 2x R3R and 2x R13M1 for max range kills... if you want a higher chance of a hit, and don't care about having to get probably within 4km, then R60Ms instead. but it's always good to carry some R3R's in case you end up head-on unnoticed. Many thanks! Yup, definitely gonna be loading the R3R, decided that already after reading Rage's comment yesterday on another thread: I'm genuinely scared when in missile range of a Mig21 in response to Darkwolf's Please gentlemans, lets keep it polite. they is nothing more ridiculous than R3R ~85% pk anyway :D Wanted to try them out on DCS Israel server, but for some reason couldn't get a lockon with IR missiles even when in perfect position, on two occasions.
Darkwolf Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 We usually fly with R3R, R13M1, and R60M in the team. Choice goes that way : IF we can surprise a high contrailling target such as a bomber or an overly confident F-15C, The guy who carries the R13M is the shooter. IF we can surprise a low manoeuvering target, or if we are merged, the R-60 equiped pilot engages. ELSE R3R is the primary missile in every other cases. It has great Pk, and when you has solid lock it's a guaranteed kill. but we try to avoid radar use, and the two case below Shall the stealth kill fail, we immediately lock and shoot one.
