hannibal Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 just curious if theres any benchmarks for DCS. would be nice to know what is the best cpu for DCS now that the new engine is ok. its obvious clock speed helps on attaining high fps.. but if someone had a multi-gpu setup, does a octo or hex core work better than a quad, being that windows 10 and graphics handles SLi cards better? 1 find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
BitMaster Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 If you are still looking for stuff to buy, consider a Gsync screen as many including me re stating excellent results in smoothness from 45-145fps ( in my case ). For the CPU, rather higher clocking than more cores for DCS, the newest i7 with 10/20 cores would be a waste. SLI...I would be very cautious as most SLI threads have a very negative taste. If that changes ? nobody knows. In general, micro stutter is a SLI problem across all titles, not only DCS. I personally prefer the biggest single card I can afford and buy the next one 1-2 years down the road. What makes sense now, since we know how VRAM hungry 2.0 and NTTR are, is a card with a big VRAM, 8 12 or 16GB would be nice to have. Greetings from downtown Vegas ;) If I had to buy a new one, I`d buy a selected i7 that clocks 5.x GHz with proper cooling, a single 980GTX-Ti, Samsung SSD256GB 950Pro, 16GB+ and a Gsync screen, actually the same I have as it is the only one I know that does 144Hz and Gsync...and I wouldnt wanna change it to 4k at 60Hz Gsync. 1 Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

BUT with windows 10, doesnt multiple cores beyond quad core help with the graphics side of processing as windows handles direct X 11? I "think" that may be more pertaining to DX12 than 11. But in any event, with DCS Edge taking full advantage of DX11 a good graphics card really helps with it, way more than it did with DCS 1.2. It is nice to have a combat flight sim now that gives my GPU a good workout and takes advantage of it's features. I don't think there is any gain to be had in DCS currently with more than 4 cores.
