Lenux Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 i have to take a decision between Saitek x55 and TM Warthog HOTAS I9 12900k@ 5 GHz | 32 GB DDR4 | Asus ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming Wifi d4| RTX 3090 | 6 TB SSD + 8 TB HDD | 4K Samsung Q90R 55" | VKB MK III PRO L | Virpil Throttle MONGOOST-50 | MFG Crosswind | TrackIR5
=DECOY= Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 the x55 is a great item for the cost, the Warthog is alot more money, but people say the quality is better. the pro vs cons for me are: pros its cheaper its steady so doesn't move when in use lots of buttons which can be mapped (3 different settings per button, ie takeoff, air, landing) good lighting on the buttons throttle is smooth (stiffness can be adjusted to your liking) easy to change the springs) good looking rudder action is great Cons i had a squeak from the stick, sorted but rubbing graphite paste on the base of the stick its plastic, which isn't a problem as its strong. But i wish it was metal. Water cooled i9-9900K | Maximus Code XI MB | RTX3090 | 64GB | HP Reverb G2

Devrim Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Go for Samsung monitor, in my opinion. I've bought X55 last week. Same, I'm very happy with it, but as a prior X-52Pro user, I will have to get used to new shape and hat positions etc... VAF [136] Striker Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I'm also looking into purchasing a new monitor. I was looking at the specifications for the new 27 inch LED's and they can go up to 2560 x 1440. One of the biggest problems I've been having with my old monitor is that when I pass an enemy aircraft even at a close distance, I lose sight of them. It isn't me but it's my older 24 inch LCD monitor I realized. My question is, does anyone have experience going from that lower LCD 1920 x 1200 resolution to a higher LED monitor and does it make it easier to see aircraft at a distance. I know that you can turn up the model size but it seems to be disabled in 2.0 NTTR currently. I don't need anything bigger than 27 inch because of the size of my desk and monitor position. Thanks! Sadly, 1440p doesn't fix this. I have a 27" 1440p monitor and its still a problem. The best experience I had with visibility (and overall scale) was when I played on my 47" 1080P TV. Increasing pixel density (as you would going to 1440p) by design makes it harder to distinguish individual pixels. So when pixels are physically larger in the case of a large TV, single pixel rendered aircraft will ultimately be more visible. This may require being around half the recommended viewing distance. http://104thphoenix.com/

I've been thinking of getting another monitor anyhow but it's good to know that it won't help. Probably the only solution at this time is the "Model Enhancement" setting. bayu3008 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Have you thought about using ultrawide? I bought Dell u3415w, and it's great!
VAF [136] Striker Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 That's a little bit out of my price range currently. I was actually looking into the Asus ROG PG278Q. Not an ultra wide screen but plenty of size for my old eyeballs. Nvidia GTX-1080 Intel i7-4820K 3.7 Ghz ASUS ROG Rampage IV Extreme MB 32 GB Memory Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bernp Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) I also have the Dell 34" ultra wide, curved monitor. It really improves the immersion factor. Watch for sales, with the economy issues in China, you might find a great price on one. You'll need a strong gpu to drive it at full res though. This may require being around half the recommended viewing distance. while this is true, that individual pixels are easier to see if they're bigger, in some cases, in DCS, if something is smaller than a pixel, it just disappears, so having more pixels = seeing things that are smaller or further away, so unless you have bad eyesight, higher resolution means longer viewing distance. I haven't tried 4k yet, but at 4 feet distance i can still distinguish individual pixels at 1440p.
