Pineapple Pete Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Well, I have read the manual and watched the training videos for using the radar in the F-15. Despite my research I still have a few questions remaining. If someone can help me along I would really appreciate it. On the left side of the VSD the vertical scan zone values are displayed, as stated in the DCS training videos, in "thousands of feet." So since it is displayed in single or double digits, a literal translation of 60 (for example) would be 60,000 feet. It seems more likely that the radar is searching 6000 feet above the aircraft datum. I know that the scan zone increases according to the range selected but that is not my question. I merely want to know the real translation of the value indicated. Thanks for the help. It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D
Beamscanner Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) The Vertical Scan Zone is represented in thousands of feet above sea level, at the specified range of your cursor. The vertical scan selection on the SLOTBACK 1 and 2 radars (fulcrum/flanker aircraft) are relative to their aircraft's position(or its datum). But this is not the case for the F-15C. Also, the F-15C VSD doesn't ever indicate a negative altitude, so you'd be assuming that the radar never scanned below it's own altitude... Edited January 10, 2016 by Beamscanner
Pineapple Pete Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Hi Beamscanner. Thanks for the additional info. I feel that flight manual documentation on F-15 is a little sparse in places. It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D
Pineapple Pete Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 Another F-15C radar query All video tutorials on the F-15 radar that I have found are based on the FC2 version. In the them, while using TWS mode to "bug" multiple targets, one is instructed to "bug" them using the "tab" as opposed to "locking" the targets. The "tab" key does not function this way in the FC3 F-15C. Does anyone know how to properly do this? Thanks. It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D

Pressing the lock button again on a target you have already bugged will lock them in STT, so be aware of that. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pineapple Pete Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 Thanks AussieGhost789. The radar in this rig is quite a course of study for casual gammers like me. It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D
JINX_1391 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 quite a course of study for casual gammers like me. DCS is steep in some regards for the learning curve. There's lots of info in the forums and a really great community. Here's a breif thread from another user who was surprised about the amount of study required: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=155142 [sIGPIC]http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/JINX1391/jinx%20f99th%20sig_zps2hgu4xsl.png[/sIGPIC] "90% of the people who actually got to fly the F/A-18C module there (E3 2017) have never even heard of DCS or are otherwise totally undeserving pieces of trash." -Pyromanic4002
