Snake_Eyes Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Bohemia Interactive (creators of OFP, and the forthcoming Armoured Assault), should get together with Eagle Dynamics for the next flight sim. ED can concentrate on the aircraft. BI can concentrate on the ground war/landscapes. Ejecting in a modern day Flight Sim, usually means “Game Over”, with a static screen displaying your stats, or if rescued or not. This is where BI step in with their expertise. AKA the open ended landscapes that appeared in OFP. If I eject, crash land, or am able to land my damaged bird at a little used, little known, deserted or abandoned civvy airfield, for example. My mission goals have now changed to “Escape and Evade”, and get back to my own lines by any means possible. Did I get spotted ejecting? (Enemy troops on their way to capture me?) Did I eject unobserved? (I have flight maps of the area only, and basic pilots survival kit) How far is it to our lines? Which direction? Can I steal transport? Do I hide during the day, travel by night? Do I avoid built up areas, or go in under cover of darkness to steal a disguise off a washing line! Is my locater beacon transmitting – are my people looking for me (rescue chopper)? The possibilities are endless (and so are the scenarios). I would be willing to pay 80+ GBP for that kind of (hopefully, top class) entertainment. Question is. Would YOU get yourself deliberately shot down just so you could play out the E&E part of the Sim?
nscode Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Bohemia Interactive (creators of OFP, and the forthcoming Armoured Assault), should get together with Eagle Dynamics for the next flight sim. ...or..... not :) Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 What would totally friggin' RAWK is for the sim to turn into an accurate FPS after you eject...IF you survive the ejection. The problem is that E&E can take days, even weeks, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to sit at my PC that long at a stretch. Maybe a compromise between your idea and mine, like an R6 stealth mission, where the last thing you want is to be seen by the enemy and have to engage him with your puny M9. It should come with a can of wasps, ants, and grubs...you know...for a snack. It'd add to the immersion. :D In an on-line situation, it'd be awesome if a few players could specialize in CSAR. They could plan and execute the mission. Then they could try to survive the mission by actually flying one of the CSAR aircraft, and/or be one of the CSAR troops. Even following proper rescue contact procedures could mean the difference between life and death for the CSAR team. What would be cool is something along the same lines as the MicroProse digital battlefield concept. Cool concept...but I'm not sure if it ever actually worked.
Maverick-90 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I remember having that discussion over at the $%&-Forums years ago.... seriously this doesn't make sense, all you can do is hide and hide and hide and maybe.....hide :smartass: FPS action would be totally unrealistic and escaping kind of boring...
Witchking Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 what if u r just waiting till a rescue flight to ur location and in the meanwhile, u can hide from ground troops or attack them. :) WHISPR | Intel I7 5930K | Nvidia GTX980 4GB GDDR5 | 16GB DDR4 | Intel 730 series 512GB SSD | Thrustmaster WARTHOG | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR4 pro | |A-10C|BS2 |CA|P-51 MUSTANG|UH-1H HUEY|MI-8 MTV2 |FC3|F5E|M2000C|AJS-37|FW190|BF 109K|Mig21|A-10:SSC,EWC|L-39|NEVADA|
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Try playing a stealth mission in R6 some time, with engagement of the enemy (or being spotted by the enemy) being a deal breaker, then you'll get the idea, Maverick-90. :D Those are the most adrenaline-pumped virtual missions you can have, IMHO. Witchking, attacking ground troops who don't know where you are is a good way to end the game quick. You'll be dead, but the game will be over quickly. ;)
Force_Feedback Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I'll be more than happy if ED made the ejection a bit more realistic, and not these sluggush 10 second delay seats that didn't even exist in WW2. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
Shaman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Don't forget the rambo knife :gun_smilie: 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 A knife is helpful...but Rambo and his superhuman survival abilities are not your friend in a real situation. I recognize the sarcasm though...you already know that. ;)
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I'll be more than happy if ED made the ejection a bit more realistic, and not these sluggush 10 second delay seats that didn't even exist in WW2. So...effective rocket-actuated egress systems existed in WWII? ;) Just kidding. I agree that any delay in the seats is unrealistic though. A dialogue sequence from "Flight of the Intruder" says it best. Grafton: "The command will be 'eject, eject, eject'" Doctor: "Alright, eject, eject, eject! Got it! Do I say 'roger", or just do it, or what?" A-6 Driver (in the left seat next to doc): "You even say 'huh?", you'll be talking to yourself, 'cause I'll be gone."
hitman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Heres a dumb question...but werent american pilots supposed to switch to the HK MP5k for sidearms in the near future? Seems as if I read that somewhere but wasnt sure where I did...and speaking of which...when are we gonna hit up D-Mans IK? Lol Ben has a Mossberg 580 he wants to play with soon.
hitman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Oh...and I watched Rambo First Blood the other night. You sayin something that that Rambo stuff aint real?? Cuz I can do that any given night!!:joystick:
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Not sure about that Hitman, but an MP5K would be almost as worthless as the M9. It'd give a bit more than twice the ammo, with more suppression ability, but...when you're down in the mud, surrounded by bad guys, does it really matter? Besides, 9mm pistol ammo doesn't do much to even the most lightly armored opponent in the way of disabling him at anything beyond CQ range. Dude, I agree...we gotta hit D-mans soon. My bro is actually back from 'Stan, so he can come along too. We have the M-4, and Mini-14...along with the P94, USP 45, M77 MkII, two Mossberg 500As. And...the granddaddy of them all...the shoulder killer...the Winchester Model 70. :gun_rifle:
hitman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Sounds good to me, course all I want to do is play with some big bolt rifles. My grandpa has a Winchester .300 mag I want to shoot off. Gimme an idea when you can, anytime works for us.
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 The Model 70 is exactly what you're looking for then. Its .300 WinMag. I was just looking at the ammo, they look like small milk bottles, YIKES...no wonder the recoil hurts so much. LOL. Oh...definitely some time in the next couple of weeks dude. We're planning on hitting our favorite camping spot in Rampart afterward. You guys got a good 4X4? You'll need one. Its a great spot with THE Peak in perfect view, and none of the usual weekend/tourist camper BS to deal with. All we've got to worry about is Cougars...not many bears come to that area, but, quite frankly...I'd rather deal with bears, at least you see them before they try to attack you.
hitman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 No 4x4 between us and Im sure camping is out of the question for him (he's expecting SHORTLY) and I might have to see where Im gonna go with this one, in the process of a new apartment. Never been to Rampart Range before...still new here I guess.
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Congrats to Ben on his incoming little one. Its cool dude, its a short trip to Rampart, and my Cherokee will still carry me and 4 pax with a full combat load. Hell...we may just go to Rampart and use their rifle range. Its a little scummy because of all the numbnuts wannabes out there who can't even pack out their trash. But its a decent 100 yard range, and we can even do our civic duty by helping clean the place up a little bit. If anybody wants to hang afterward at the campsite, or go back home...its all good. Heh...I explored the CG limits of my cherokee last year while exploring the back country in Rampart. Scared the holy hell out of me and my bro, but the red rocket still (Yup she's red, has the power of a rocket, and has travelled Denver roads easily when the entire city was crippled by late spring blizzards in March and June. 3 feet of snow in those cases.) didn't tip over...just kept going, levelled out, and said "What? Bah...that scared you guys?!!! Whimps!" :D
hitman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Believe that the last time Ben went there his 77 F150 had to get towed out of there by the 86 Mazda 323 AND DID IT!!! God I hate fords. Lets see how it looks both weatherwise and kid-wise in a few weeks...I need some big bolt action. Was watching some show-shooters on THC last night and I have this itch to play with some long rifles.
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 No love for Fords or GMs here either man. I'm MOPAR all the way...and that's AFTER having both of the other two. The 323, although quite the reliable vehicle, wouldn't get to where I usually go. Most present-day 4X4s won't either, as most of them are too wide to fit between the trees. :D
hitman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Totally hijacked this thread didnt I?! Give me my trusty hiking boots and my ALICE pack. Wish I had my old Samurai...
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Heh...we BOTH hijacked it buddy. Let's both say, in unison, "Allahu Akhbar!!!". :D
hitman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 That totally reminds me!!! I was bit by a rot last week and it almost took my finger off. I now have a scab underneath the nail that resembles Jesus! I officially have no need to show up in a flour tortilla in mexico now.:music_whistling:
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Let the hijack continue...Allahu Akhbar!!! :D A Rot? You mean a Rottweiler? You're lucky the bite "almost" took your finger off, he must have just been playing and got a little too rough with you.
hitman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Yeah it was a small rotweiler...and he wasnt kidding cuz he almost took me over the fence. When that thing comes out of quarantine...im getting me a new fur coat.
Guest IguanaKing Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Aww...you can't hold it against him, in the end he's a wild, semi-domesticated animal. No fur coats, dude, just make friends with him and learn from your experience. You know what NOT to do now...YOU are smarter than he is...right? ;) You're talking to a guy with over 200 stitches to his name from reptile bites, and I never held a grudge...they're just being who they are, they never hated me. The more I learn from that bad interaction the better off we BOTH are, as a different Class of the animal Phylum. You only have to worry about being in a different Family of the same Class, Mammalia, as your nemesis. The universal language is...FOOD!!! I'm sure you two can make friends. ;)
