Wanting to look at 3 monitors - can my PC support it

Hi all

 

Not very PC hardware savvy, but was wondering how my PC would go supporting 3 monitors and what success, or failures, you may have had?

 

Current setup:

Intel i5-4690

16GB Ram

250 Gb SSD (operating system only)

2TB 2nd HDD (this is where steam games live)

Geforce GTX970

Soon to be X55 Rhino

Running a single Dell 24"

 

If I went out and bought two more of the Dell 24" Monitors and had them all running on the above PC and plugged in via Display Port - what would it be like? How would it run?

 

Note: I run 1920 x 1080 ingame resolution with all settings on MAX (pic below), love what I see now and wouldn't want to drop graphics or experience.

wait, since when is SLI working for DCS? Does it now? Did I miss something? Or do you don't connect the screens all to the same card?

 

and yes, I can say for a fact that a single 970 will work just fine for 3 screens (I have 2 970s, but SLI never worked when I tried..) I used it for some time (AND had a 4th USB screen for Helios exports...).

 

However, I ditched the system because 3 screens just make the view unnatural in my opinion. I switched to a nice 4K display a good while ago and never looked back. (still have all the other screens, but only for helios..)

Fact same here ditched 3 screens for one big one and so glad i did, 4k and a 1080p 55 inch for 3d. If you dont have the room or are sold on 3 screens just realize performance is a juggling act and the left and right screen are distorted in nvidia surround doesnt look good just their for sense of periphal speed. Atleast it was with my 3 27 inchers.

I ran 3 screen with 1.2 and sli helped out allot!!! Problem is now with edge it doesnt currently work very well with sli, buuuut check my recent posts in the sli thread as its working very well for me with 4k but have bad stutters over vegas actual, which i never fly low their anyway, other than that it doubles my frame rate in very graphic intese areas.

i recommend those with 3 screens give it a try also may get lucky like me.

I ran my hardware (see signature) with a GTX970 before.

Absolutely no problems, I had about constant 30fps.

I used to run sli 780's in the 1.2 days to get 40fps. Now with 1.5 and 2.0, SLI does not work and with a single 780 on 3 monitors I can easily get 50 fps in Nevada and the same in 1.5. Now, flying over Vegas is not the same as flying in the desert, I hit low 20's over Vegas but who cares, I never fly there anyway.

Soooo, no you don't need any more than you have for 3 monitors, 1.5 and 2.0 are more GPU heavy now so your i5 should have no problem. Like you, I run 16gig of ram and a 250 gig SDD.
