Kernel 341.92 keeps crashing.

Im running a Sony laptop with a Nvidia GT330M Card, DX11 Compatible.

 

Every time I load 1.5 I get DCS Has stopped working: Nvidia Kernel Driver 341.92 has stopped working and recovered, game crashes.

 

I have tried closing AVG - No difference

Rolling back the driver - No difference

Update the driver - 341.92 is the latest.

 

Anybody got any idea how to fix this, it ran 1.2 just fine.

 

I have managed to get it to the Load Mission stage three times, aircraft loaded then when I hit Fly the whole thing goes bananas and runs the crash sequence in a continuous loop and the only way I can stop it is to shut the laptop down, its crazy !!!

Just my 2 cent , far as i remember the GT 330M is a DX 10 card. Best thing to do is check the supported feature level of your GPU in the Nvidia control panle under system info. DCSW 1.2.x is the DX 9 version of this sim , since 1.5 a new Engine is used for the render (DX11). There is a way of getting the Nv Kernel driver to stop of stopping working , but it req. a manual edit of your registry wich may cause more problems down the road.

Thanks Hawk - the card is DX11 compatible it says. That said I have just found this solution on line, applied it and and it seems to be working, so far.

2 options left for you, the dirty registry hack (last option) or checking the windows event viewer for a fault log and taking it for this point.

Cheers again Hawk but I think I am going to kick DCS into the long grass, I can't be bothered to buy a new Laptop just to run 1.5 when the one I have does everything else just fine.

 

I have tried deleting everything and reinstall's three times now, I guess my laptop is not up to the job.

 

I rather knew this day might come, so unless DCS give us a 1.2 Reinstall (And we all know that aint ever going to happen) then I'm off to do other things.

I've seen someone switching back to v1.2, can't seem to find the post anymore though. Keeping installation files is sometimes a good idea too if you have the diskspace...

Sadly not an option for me now Coug4r, I deleted my old 1.2 installs when I was trying to get this 1.5 cleaned up, wish I hadn't but too late now.

 

Its all DCS 2 these days and if you don't have the kit to run it you are screwed, so its back to IL2 and plastic runways for me !!!.

Well i still got them but kinda 10Gb though and just FC3 but there might be mirrors and the torrent so you could probably still find and download v1.2.

That's strange, it's telling me its DX11 when I check it on my laptop.

Does anyone know of a site where I can safely download 1.2 again, I found two but my Security won't let me anywhere near them ? I'll happily go back to 1.2 on my Laptop in order to do some skin work when I'm abroad.

This is where i've read someone going back to v1.2, unfortunately he doesn't tell how he got back.

@BIGNEWY, isn't the v1.2 still available somewhere for people that found out too late they can't run v1.5+?

 

If you would only need the DCS_World_1.2.16.xxx.exe like mentioned in a previous post there, i still got it and that's only 2.7Mb. You can run it 10 times through www.virustotal.com to make sure it's clean.

Yes, I have that in mind to try, but I'm wondering if it will work. I cleaned out my whole install because I thought there might be something clagging up 1.5. Turns out I was wrong about that of course.

 

So now I have a clean install of 1.5, not upgraded from 1.2, so will that suggestion actually work, will it still insert the files to make my new 1.5 using the new game engine back into a 1.2 using the old game engine.

 

Only one way to find out, will let you know in a day or two when I have time to do it.
